Oh, thanks. I don’t know one way or the other if it will help me get a job by saying that because I have experience doing fashion videography that I could try to get a given video company fashion industry clients, but it’s something I’ll at least keep in mind.

Please no (major) bugs. Supposedly Sony took their time to ensure this, but we’ll see.

[Colin Morris] “Hi Angelo,
The job fair would probably be interesting-but if you already have great material that covers a genre (like fashion) maybe it’s not the ideal fit for your skills and connections. I think the fashion angle may be good for you because they are very photo aware and usually have some kind of budget”Sorry, this is unclear to me. What’s not an ideal fit for my skills? The employers at the job fair? Who’s the “they” that are photo aware?
I also have a lot of multicamera public events (comedy shows, concerts), and other videos that I can create reels for.

Thanks for the advice and kind words, Colin. It’ll be a challenge, but I think I can cut a few reels together.
At the same time, none of these companies that will be at the job fair have done any fashion videos that I’ve seen. They mostly focus on public relations, corporate, government, educational, and branding type videos, with a few exceptions. Though some do broadcast television and filmmaking.

It’s not as easy for me to afford an Apple computer and FCP X, but at least I can bring this up in an interview.

I definitely think showing up in person and showing that I’m not just sending out 100 applications will help, too. Virtually every client I’ve gotten has been by just showing up, anyways, when had I put in an application I would have been most certainly overlooked.
My problem with trying to make a demo reel is how different my videos have been from each other. I don’t want to cut a bunch of different types of videos together, which won’t give a clear idea of what I do and won’t be tailored to employers. I was thinking about just having different styles of projects I’ve worked on ready to show depending on what each company does.

Well, we’ll see. I have a 16 GB mini SD card, which is more than enough space for the video I plan on loading onto it.
I’ll follow your advice on rendering to the Galaxy resolution and test it out. For now I’m just going to use it at this job fair.

I bit the bullet and bought the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 for a little over $100.

Well, saving money is important to me. Would the $70 difference be worth it? Keep in mind I’ll just be using this to play mp4s (I imagine). And I only have this one event I’ll be using for for the foreseeable future.

[Dave Osbun] “Here’s to hoping for an updated compatibility list of graphics cards (both nVidia and Radeon) for accelerated rendering via GPU.”
That would be great.
I hope Sony’s aggressively trying to match and out perform Adobe with their list of updates for Premiere.
