Im so curious to check the drive now! Will verifying the disk lose data? Can I jut check before repairing anything? I don’t want to check it until I can confirm the card still has the wedding? I can edit everything except that one clip….dont want to risk it all. Let me know I f I can check the drive before backing up?!? Thanks

THank you so much! I will try and move everything off of this drive. Here’s the bad part – I can’t move this wedding it won’t allow me to! I’ll make sure the card still has the wedding and go from there. I think the drive is going bad too! UGH! Thank you so much for searching this for me. I will keep you posted.

Im unsure of the card itself. The videographer does the transfer from the card to the drive…then passes the drive to me. We’ve always done this with no issues.

Like I was mentioning, I have been trying to move the footage from Drive A to B – and even Drive A to drive C. That’s where I am getting the error about not being able to read or write the data? Im hoping we can take footage from card again to a new drive. Praying he still has footage on card. Fingers crossed. Something is really wrong here – and i am STUPMED!

Thank you. I was thinking that might be my only option. Unfortunately, I only edit the footage. I will call the videographer and see if he can transfer the footage again?! Who knows if he kept it on the card. The way we have always exchanged is through this drive. So hopefully, he does a backup of his own besides just this drive. This could take me a few days, but I am going to try it. Please don’t go away! I’ll update as soon as I know something.

I’m not sure about the drive. However, I have been working with this drive for 2+ years doing exactly what I am doing now?!?! No problems. And, It’s so strange to me that the entire wedding (100 clips) transfered fine – except just this one?!? I have plenty of space too!

Within FCP, I am not getting an error code – just timing out with the rainbow wheel. The error code that I get when trying to move the .MTS file to a new drive is ” The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in 00003.MTS could not be read or written Error Code -36 ”

THank you for trying to help. Could the file be messed up in the middle somehow? Like I mentioned, when using clipwrap, I am getting about the first 3 minutes of the 16 minute clip?!?

No, not that I am aware of. Some new information since my initial post:

    1. I tried to move the .MTS file to a new drive, as I am beginning to think that the drive is corrupt. And, my copy failed with an error code. Tried to copy and move my entire project and that failed too!

Still nothing. I know that I have captured using this camera before. What the heck am I forgetting this time? Tried 2 different Firewire cables, two different ports on the Mac. I am capturing to an external hard drive, and thought that it may be causing the issue. So, just to test, I tried capturing to my internal system drive and got the same message. Unable to initialize deck. UGH!!!

Did that too. I typically edit HD video, and was a little taken back while trying to change all of the settings manually. What option should I chose for Easy Setup ? I’ve tried NTCS. What options should I chose? Rate? Custom Setup? Thank you.
