As far as I know, you don’t have to go through such extensive measures to regain your project.

I faced the same exact issue with the sequence message and tried numerous computer restarts as well as other methods, but to no avail. However, I opened a new project today and imported the lost sequence into the new project’s media browser, and thus it was all right as rain. Try that before anything else, I suppose. It’s not the world’s answer to the issue, but it’s a good way to beat around the bush.
