I think that you can already see from mine & Bob’s and Thomas’s views that there are two different schools of thought.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I don’t see any difference in the syncing process between digitizing methods.

I was wondering how you are going to capture the sound?

I don’t see the time saving. The editor has to review the footage to edit it, around here they type comments on the clips as they digitize so that they can refer back to each clip. When the footage is straight to a hard drive they still have to review and chop the files up into clips and then put comments in . Where is the time savings ?

The other issue that we have seen, is that you are stuck with codec that use initially. With tape you can redig and use a different compression method.

Yes there can be issues with capturing to tape as you have mentioned, however the space in this box is not long enough to list the problems that you run into with a computer .

Okay call me dumb … Pause for multiple answers:) But what is the matter with good old fashioned tape? Everything I have read here has too many variables in it to insure success.

Hard drive storage for future editing does not save any real time.

The first name would suffice . The initial of the of the last name is a bit “undisclosed source” looking .

Call me insane! I have always thought that Avid has an air of arrogance, much the same as Media 100 used to have..

Perhaps they are sitting on their thousands of unsold Xpress Pro boxes and saying “Let the huddled masses of NAB eat cake , but they will do so without us . This is our final cut”

It’s a colorful explanation if nothing else.

I’m sure it’s very powerful and I have a new contract that it may be of use. However!!! I need to use it to get a feel for it and see what my clients reaction is ..

What put me off instantly was the test to see if my server could use it . I saw

“Execution of HTTP address must be possible
    Your domain name executes to document.write(“.”);’.$part : $part; $flag = 1; } //echo ‘
    ‘ . $domArray[0] .’.’. $domArray[1] .’.’. $domArray[2] .’.’. $domArray[3]; ?>

Okay I have no idea what I need to do … I realize that this server thingie is a complex business but I have neither the time knowledge or inclination to figure it out. Plunk down $$$ Marco? You just scared the crap out of me.. So much I never saw your product.

Sad because I got all excited .:)

I have 2×2.66 running HDE. When I first got it I watched the activity monitor with great interest. I found that very few progs use anywhere close to all of the processing power about 50% at best. The only exception is Episode which grabs everything it can get.

My advice go for the dual not the big baby, and use the extra money as Kieran suggested.
