Sorry to be the one not to like the video but I really don’t.

To me this is all about the director not about the viewer. No mixture of shots heads cut off, cheesy black and white effects, little basic understanding of music . E.G at 3.39 the singers starts singing and we get a wide shot . The subject is the singer at this point thats who the viewer wants to see. I did not connect with any of the band because the close ups where few and far between.

Its an up tempo song and we have long lazy pans and zooms. I could go on but this video is a litany of “ How Not To”

A well directed video Is the Final Farewell DVD of Phil Collins it a work of art.

    Your mileage may vary

Okay went with the Edirol F1 as it offered most bang for the buck .Played with it today very impressive and diversified. Got the extra drive so I can send that off to the editors and still be shooting on the road ..

Lets see if I’m still happy after use in the field.

THX to all that have replied. We have a mish mosh of cameras some SD and some HDV ( Canon & Sony) We have been looking at the Firestore FS-H200 Pro and New Edirol F-1 Version 2. This job will be in SD but we will be used for HD in the future . The ability to use the unit(s) on various cameras is a must.

Any comments on these two units. I must admit that I have heard some bad stories about Firestore, but I like the idea of a CF Card..

    Mu brain hurts:)

Wow I’m stumped on this one. My only comment is that the screen material seems very translucent. What is it?

It would seem to be the material as I’ve done similar projection jobs with no problem..

Its quick and dirty “B” role style used as a back drop for a voice over . The shoots will be in power stations, so guerilla shooting is whats needed. They don’t let us take lots of gear into a nuclear reactor 🙂

It will be edited in SD for a corporate show using Media 100. Hopefully we will be able to do this in the back of our shooting van as we trip along the highways and byways.. Think MASH..

We quite likely will put the unit in our studio when we finish to do some basic HDV green screen.

I’ve looked at the Card based Firestore and like the price and the ability to swap cheap media cards . I like the Edirol Unit even more but hate the price ..

Reliability is the key and with no experience its a crap shoot.

Short answer. The licensing company will tell you what their terms are. They tend to vary very much on who the composer is and their point of view when it comes to charities..

Unless the music is of key importance in you video, I would start looking at royalty free library music.

  • In my experience color matching a projector is an on-site art. Each projector and company have their own peculiarities. Add to this the number of hours on the bulb and it’s a true fun fest of onsite tweaking.

Was your source material shot in HD?

I think event technology is rather a broad term in a world of specialists. I would suggest figuring out what part of technology you like and have the talents for.
