50,000 is a big number, big enough that you should look into the music performing rights aspect of these “webcasts” . These fees can get pretty heavy and better you know before hand rather than you get a massive bill after the fact…

I would suggest spending a few $$$ and getting an experienced person. A flow chart is all well and good but if something does not go according to plan you will need a experienced troubleshooter.

July 26, 2010 at 6:20 pm in reply to: Switcher/Scaler: Barco ScreenPro II HD; Edirol V-440HD; Grass Valley Indigo?Analog Way has a variety of products that will fill the bill. They can be a bit pricey but they are workhorses. Edirol has a nice switcher (V-440HD) that does a very nice job and is more cost effective.
I must admit that I am a Edirol fan as I have used and own a lot of their products and find they make a good reliable product at a reasonable price.Andy Stinton

Thanks to all those that gave such great advice. I’ve done some of the staging “3D” tricks before… many many years ago.. I guess everything that’s old is new again.
I’m for sure going to check out the Panasonic 3D camera which might be a sound investment for the future. I think that offering this service to clients may be advantageous.
It’s a strange world where consumers/clients are getting their hands on technology like 3D monitors and cameras before we “pros” can get into the production game.. Hey on my research I even saw an Iphone 3D app..

Noah. Sorry if I was not specific enough
My role is the production company for the whole event. The 3D part is just one element of it. We would produce about 5- 3min films coupled with environmental effects within the area. Some would be projected and others be shown on LCD’s .
I was trying to ascertain the price and availability of equipment and personnel to assess the viability of the 3d video project.
I found your comment “but not a ton of work is really being done below the level of the event film.”very motivational. Its those new expanding markets that my company likes to develop.
The live event/staging industry is very competitive and I see this as possible point of difference. Its seems that already the cameras are on there way in the next few months and at affordable prices.

Best thread I’ve read for a long time. Lots of amazing advice.. A good book to read is larry King’s biography. He explains within the pages his secret… Which is keep the question simple and react with a simple question..
