You can make the layers smaller in the layers pane by grabbing the edge of a layer and dragging up. And I don’t really need to see every layer in your project, just ones that might be affecting the clones opacity, or blocking it from view. Basically making sure that you don’t have 2d/3d layer issues, or layer order issues. If the problem isn’t easily viewable, I’d need to see the actual project to tell what your problem is.

There could be a number of reasons why the clone is not showing up. Without seeing a screenshot of your project, or seeing the project itself, it’s difficult to tell what could be the problem.

[Daniel Bernard] “Why were you curious? Are you working with FCPX / Resolve duo too?”
Not at the moment, but I may have need to and I was curious about your workflow. Have you considered making compound clips of your Resolve-useable assets and unusable assets instead of the copy/paste method? I’m not sitting at my machine now, but could that potentially work since compounds save to the event and you can lay them in with the Q shortcut? Just a thought.

[Daniel Bernard] “Hold, and still images don’t go to resolve. So I need to put them aside and be able to bring them back on again.”
Can you explain how the copy/paste as connected accomplishes this for you? I’m having trouble visualizing. Are you just creating a copy so you can remove the tiffs, mattes and things from the original project and then drop them back in? Don’t your copied as connected clips end up in Resolve when you export?

[Ronny Courtens] “The cuts will appear as dotted lines now, indicating a through edit. This wasn’t the case in 10.0.8 if memory serves me well.”
This functionality exists in 10.0.8 as well. I haven’t upgraded mine yet and it does this as well.

Then why are you making blanket statements about its capabilities? False ones at that. It’s totally fine to not like FCPX. Be my guest, go your own way. But don’t try to advise others into your prejudices when you have no idea what you’re talking about, don’t use the program, and apparently have no desire to.

August 7, 2013 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Moving to FCPX, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Avid…almost simultaneouslyYou should learn all 3. Professional post production is in a state of flux. With the EOL of FCP7 many facilities are finding themselves having to choose a different system to work off of. There are a lot of editors out there looking for work. You only limit your job opportunities by committing to one NLE over another especially when some facilities are still deciding what they are going to do post-FCP7.
You don’t “spread yourself too thin” by learning more than one program because the important parts of editing remain the same no matter what program you use, and it’s not that difficult to become proficient in 3 NLEs which aren’t all that different from one another to begin with (true, FCPX has some elements to it that are unique, but not in a big picture way).

Connected clips can only be connected to the primary storyline. You cannot connect a clip to another connected clip.
If you want to get rid of your gap clip, what you need to do is drop the lowest connected clip back into the storyline (CMD+OPT+down arrow) and then the other connected clips will be connected to that clip.

You can’t import motion projects in that fashion. You need to publish them to FCPX instead.
