Figured you’d be the first to try that, John.

I feel like it’s super weird to get angry over a feature. I can see people wanting to have had their pet improvement take a higher priority than one they feel they won’t get much use out of, but to actively bash the titles as being “cheesy” is really to be missing the point.

One: The titles are NOT cheesy. Or more correctly, they are only cheesy when created that way either by intent or inexperience. Basically, this is the issue with pretty much every single transition effect that exists in every single NLE. Does that mean we shouldn’t have them? Of course not, it just means that some people will be able to get good quality out of a feature, while others will not.

Two: There is no mandate that all titles must now be 3D. Sure, I bet you’ll see an uptick in you tube videos with 3D titles from those who are playing with the new feature. But who cares? It’s not your work. If you’re busy being annoyed by what other people are doing with their videos, then you need a hobby.

Three: What is now popular and “correct” will not always be so. Ok. So 3D titles are looked down upon in favor of clean, flat titles right now. But if you think that the 90s was the only time in video history where 3D titles were popular, then you haven’t been in this game long enough. At some point, the pendulum will swing the other direction and 3D will be extremely popular again. Why rail against having a tool to make them?

Four: There is something larger that this all means. It’s weird to me that all this talk has centered around 3D titles when MY takeaway has been that Motion can now create and use true 3D objects. This could be the start of something. Simple object creation. 3D light effects and smoke, volumetric lighting, 3D modeling program compatibility. 3D text is exciting for what it could mean down the road.

[David Berez] “FCPX is like sheathing a RED EPIC in Fisher Price plastic.”

[Dave Stoelk] “SECOND: Yes, there’s a “Fisher Price” aspect to the software and a healthy patina of “pro-sumerism” in the interface. Why?

I really can’t understand this complaint. There’s nothing Fisher Price about FCPX. It’s uncluttered, but that’s not un-pro. It’s icons are fine. Oh, there’s a key icon. How cheesy. Do you realize that the icon on the Avid for Lift is a stick figure muscle man holding a barbell? How is that more professional?

FCPX is different. A lot different looking than Avid or Premiere, but just as professional.

I also was never a fan of Sequences being called “Projects,” but I’ve never had a problem with the term, “Library” and in fact, think it’s highly appropriate to X’s workflow. “Event” is such a vague term that I think people are unsure how to consider them.

Personally, I think their naming convention should’ve been this:

    Library —-> Project —–> Sequence

where project is used in place of event and makes a helluva lot more sense in that context.

[Aindreas Gallagher] “it’s possible to directly access many of the interface tool and button icons in PPro and adjust them (as in adjust/remake them in PS).”

I would love to be pointed in the direction of how this is done because that’s pretty amazing/scary if true.

So that’s really a thing? My daughter is too young for TV so I’d never heard of it. It just seemed out of left field and vaguely dirty sounding.

Couldn’t you create a preset in Compressor and then link to it in the share menu in FCPX?

Have you tried checking the box in compressor to “copy audio tracks from source”. I assume if you have 12 tracks of audio outputing, then you could get 12 tracks that way. Haven’t tried it myself.

SHIFT+V as Bret said will show images past the canvas borders. Also, in the preferences, you can adjust the transparency level of the space beyond the canvas frame, so you can make it effectively 0 and the frame box disappears until you’re finished with your bezier.

That’s how I’d do it, or else I’d shrink the image to fit within the frame as Robin suggested and then scale it up after.

Sorry, I was typing with one hand and a baby in the other. I didn’t mean shift. I meant the space bar. Hold the space bar down and you’ll get the hand for as long as it’s held. When you release, you’ll get the pen back.

The link is just part of my signature. You can ignore it.
