    Hey Tim

Another option with potential value for a general use Thunderbolt (w/MXO2) system is the MXO2 Dock … it’s more expensive at $349, but it adds a general purpose docking station to the Matrox Thunderbolt Adapter … you can think of it as a regular Matrox DS1 Thunderbolt dock with an MXO2 host port tacked on (for an extra $100).

We just picked up a DS-1 for one of our laptops … but I’m wishing we’d ordered up the MXO2 Dock instead.

    Cheers

Don’t worry about it Julian, it’s not personal. This is the FCP X love/hate forum where neither potentially negative nor potentially positive FCP X posts/threads are allowed to go uncontested … even if they’ve already worked themselves out. 😉

Edit … actaully I’m mistaken! This isn’t that forum at all. Still ….

Seems like you could just edit your extra 3 minutes or so at the end of what you’ve already done, then just drag it to the start and let the existing beginning dance out of the way … or something.

Caveat: I mostly don’t know what I’m talking about with respect to FCPX so take any advice from me with a pinch of salt.

That’s great Jeff, much appreciated … I’d convinced myself that idea was a non-starter without even trying.

    Hey Jeff

Can you confirm that you are using the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire adaptor, to successfully connect and capture from your DV/HDV camera’s via FireWire … and if not, could you provide a link to whichever cable/adaptor you’re using.

    Cheers

What exactly didn’t work Noel … is it that you Mac doesn’t recognise the deck at all when its attached via FireWire or only that FCP X didn’t recognise and list it in the import window? Or did FCP X see it but the import didn’t work? Have to say that when I attached a generic Sony DV deck the other day (using a 4 pin to 6 pin adapter and a 6 pin to 9 pin cable) it all just worked. I might have just been lucky but it seemed a pretty solid response to a pretty hokey set up.

[Craig Seeman] “There’s Lightworks, costs nothing now. … “

Yeah, it kinda costs nothing, at least theres a “costs nothing” option which may work in a educational environment, but for any kind so called “pro” workflow you really do need to pay the annual “pro” license fee … which is fair enough, and its only the equivalent of $5 a month.

Lots of good info on their website Jeremy.

Re Mac … until they go into public beta then we can only guess on the requirements, but you could look to their current PC and Linux requirements for clues.
