Well I’m not entirely sure what you’re suggesting young man. 😉 But I am certainly enjoying myself and don’t intend to stop so long as all this speculation remains as entertaining as it has been so far. I’m not sure which I’m enjoying more, watching the headless chickens running amok, or the watching the self appointed arbiters of reason running around desperately trying to catch them. Wheee … 🙂

[Erik Lindahl] “Use the current tools that goes your work done and don’t worry to much about the future.”
I’m sure thats a very laudable outlook Erik, but where’s the fun in that … especially in a forum intended (currently) for discussion of a “future” product? 🙂

[Chris Kenny] “Display of interlaced material on progressive displays is a long-solved problem. See any non-CRT TV in the world … etc etc “
Wasn’t aware anyone was disputing that Chris. My post is in response to Walter who seems to be under the impression that ColorSync would be somehow responsible for handling this in FCP X.

Certainly the FCP X preview announced the integration of ColorSync into the app to enable color space managed workflow … but I didn’t see anything that suggested Color Sync now managed display of interlacing? Something else entirely surely.

Hey Oded
The intent behind introducing ColorSync support in FCPX, is exactly as pre-announced during the Sneak Peak ie to provide accurate color space management throughout your FCP X workflow (ie ingest through export) so that what you see on your monitor is a true representation of the colors as recorded and edited, and that your final export will preserve that accuracy. Currently, yes, one needs to use a properly calibrated production monitor to ensure that the colors you are looking at are accurate because FCP is not built to ensure that accuracy within your Canvas window. With FCP X, assuming you have accurate profiles for your devices, then the Color Sync managed workflow should allow you to be able to critically assess your images within the FCP interface itself … although obviously what you see on your display will still of course be limited by the quality / accuracy of the display itself. It’s pretty safe to assume that regardless of ColorSync, pro users will still very much want and require high quality broadcast output and display for artistic and technical monitoring purposes.
Hope it helps

You must be a lot of fun at parties Herb … you do realize this is the rampant speculation forum right? 😉

Hi Siu Kei Ip
Just as Chris, Andreas and others have pointed out, the latest generation MBP is a great machine and essentially a new model and therefore has a “buy now” status.. If you have the money put aside already, sure, go ahead. I am suggesting however that if you do not need (or just desperately want) to buy it right now then waiting can do you no harm and might actually provide you some small if unlikely advantage to do so. There is always the possibility of glitches in Rev A hardware just as there can be issues in Version 1.0 software. If you are not in a hurry then you can happily let others buy the brand new model and help Apple to uncover any potential glitches, and then when you come to buy you may be lucky enough to be picking up Rev B model.
Whatever you choose to do, hope you enjoy the new hardware … and the new software in June.
Cheers

Not at all Herb, features are routinely locked long before the beta stage … but releases eventually have updates and its exactly this kind of codified list that can help drive whats in the next beta. Good job Ben.
