    Peter,

I’m using CS5, so I should be in good shape. However, I’ve noted the other programs and codecs so I can use them in the future. I’m a bit of a rookie at this process, but the 1080p video quality from the Canon has really inspired me. Thanks for the advice.

    Jeremy,

Thank you. I converted the AVI in QuickTime Pro and it worked well in FCP. Would you mind answering one more question? When I bring the file into FCP the video in the Viewer looks crisp, but the video in the Canvas window is blurred. The original video is a strange size since I did a screen capture (876 x 632). When I kick out a finished AVI, is there a way I can make it match the original 876 x 632? The finished product is for a computer display so I don’t have to worry too much about form factor. I believe the 640 x 480 is also why the canvas is blurry. I have the canvas viewing set to 100% – any thoughts? Is this a Sequence Settings Issue? I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

    Thanks,
    Andy

    Jeremy,

Is Photo JPEG for still images? I’m looking to convert a recorded movie of an application from the Techsmith AVI codec to something else. I’m new to the FCP process, so I’m a little green on the video conversion formats.

    Thanks,

    Edward,

Thank you for your reply. Have you ever seen a script that will name the output file with the name set in the region marker? Thanks for your help.

Another option that someone told me is to get a cheap standard microphone and run it through a preamp like the M-Audio’s Mobilepre USB and then into my computer. According to the individual, the preamp will compensate for having an average sound card and help keep the sound clear. Does this seem like a logical option to you?
