Hi Mats,
I’ve been using Izotope Radius for time stretching and while it does a great job (so do a lot of other software solutions out there) I wouldn’t use it for more than a factor of ±10% the original speed. The more extreme the change to pitch or tempo the more artifacts will be introduced, especially so when slowing things down as the software has to interpolate data that isn’t originally there.
The type of source material also plays a major role of how far up or down you can stretch/pitch but generally at anything more than 10% up or down you start getting issues. For your case, with a factor of two you might want to consider reshooting/re-recording the audio if at all possible.
Good luck!

Tons of audio transcription software out there but Nuance’s Dragon (available for PC and Mac) is probably the most efficient, reliable one. More info here: https://www.nuance.com/dragon/index.htm

Agreed, you should regard microphones as a tool, not unlike the brushes a painter may use, I found that having a wide range of microphones is better than just having one or two really expensive “high-end” ones. The more the better really, the hard part is memorizing which one sounds which way. Takes a lot of experimentation and experience. However, with todays recording setups recording the same instrument with 3 or even more different microphones is not a big issue and lets you select the perfect mic afterwards.

can you give a bit more information on what you’re trying to do?
I have used all kinds of methods to keep track of data, mostly using Filemaker and other database applications, sometimes simple text files and on bigger projects SQL databases that had the actual assets included online.
Are you looking to have a playback system, something linked to your editing application, to exchange information with other folks working on the same project etc. ?

January 2, 2012 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Pro Tools Mix Not Syncing in PAL video project.Hey David,
sounds like something went amiss with the format of the mix, I would suggest to try to add the soundtrack in plain old Quicktime 7 to see if it happens there too. Opening the mix in a sound editing app like Soundtrack Pro, Amadeus, Audacity or whatever you might have on hand have a look at the exact time and see if it matches. If nothing else helps you could always stretch the mix (bad fix but a fix …) to be in perfect sync by slowing it down 1/2 sec over the total duration of your cut. It will depend on the material wether this is feasible or not but if you’re in a rush it might be better than having everything out of sync in the last third of the cut.
Good luck!

Hi Randall,
I’d try by trying to pinpoint the culprit by elimination starting with the software and possible drivers first.
Have you tried recording and playing back using another application of your choice to see if it occurs there as well, if so it might be a driver issue, so next step would be to check for updated drivers and after that hooking it up to another computer.Just some ideas,
good luck!

I’m assuming you’re using Windows so a quick google search (since we’re running Mac only here) found me two apps that will do the job for you as it seems:
1.) Smartlabs tsMuxer will be able to extract the AC3 out of the .mkv Link: https://smlabs.net/en/products/tsmuxer/
2.) Using BeSweet you will be able to grab the ac3 and spit out separate files Link: https://dspguru.doom9.net/Hope that helps, good luck! đŸ™‚

Hi David,
it’s hard to give an exact answer as it depends on the source format. Could you tell us what the original video container is? (Such as .mov, mpeg etc) and then maybe what you intend to do with it as that can influence workflow.

Hi Chris,
the file needs to go into Macintosh HD / Users / “your user name here” / Library / Preferences / Final Cut Pro User Settings / Custom Settings.
Hope that will work for you and good luck with the project!

Hi Rich,
only issue, as I see you also are involved with sound, is that Solid State Logic’s virtual dongle is no longer working under Lion. No update as of yet afaik! Otherwise Logic Pro suite, Waves, TC, NI etc. work fine (check your software’s websites for updates).
Good luck on the upgrade!
