What is your native codec in your FCP timeline?
You said high quality, low file size, but plays choppy. Sounds odd. What is the duration and resolution of your movie? What do you consider to be a “very low” file size? What one considers “low” is relative?

Yeah, since I was in such a pinch I had to go to Best Buy to buy a PC, but they couldn’t sell me one since they updated their stock with only Windows 7 machines.
Luckily I have a PC that I had to buy in college which was up to the task of these encodes. Although yesterday was chaotic, it’s turned out for the better since I now can find a computer that better suites our needs here.
I guess Windows 7 isn’t officially supported by Sorenson yet, so I’m hesitant to run it. Also, I didn’t see any info on Sorenson’s sight, but do they support 64-bit systems?

Murphy’s law is at it again. Windows 7 release is tomorrow and most all computers are preloaded with Windows 7 and cannot be sold until tomorrow.
Awesome.

And you have any experience with Gateway? I used to edit with Avid on a Dell, but my general thoughts on Gateway aren’t good. I don’t know that I have any particular reason to think that though…

Looks like the solution will now be a dedicated PC for encoding.
Opinions on specs I should look for? What do you think of this Dell?

It’s possible that I just overlooked the setting since I was rushing.
Squeeze for Windows and dual booting it is. Any idea if the ON2 VP6 plugin I bought yesterday for the Mac version of Sorenson can be transferred over to the new PC copy I have to buy?
Thanks for contacting Telestream. 10 Pro support would indeed be a nice update.

It looks like I’m locked into outputting with WMA 10 Pro. I spoke with the account exec at the ad agency and she didn’t really know why the client wants version 10 vs. 9, she just said that’s what they need.
Unlikely that they would know any different, but this is for our largest client, so I’ll make sure I get them what they need whatever it takes.
Our animators dual boot their Macs, so while one was at lunch I downloaded the WME to check it out. It looks like it gives me enough options, but I didn’t see the WMA 10 Pro as an option. He came back before I could check for WMP updates, but am I correct in assuming that 10 Pro was absent only because of a needed update? I would have that downloading the latest WME would give me up-to-date codecs.

Sorry, I meant that Microsoft isn’t supporting future releases of Windows Media Player for Mac.
I spoke with a friend running Sorenson on a PC and it does offer WMA 10 Pro encoding.
Does Windows Media Encoder allow for custom settings on bit rates and such or is it only presets?
I read over those articles a few times, but couldn’t really see too much of a reason why one would go with 10 vs. 9 other than efficiency. Are there any other reasons that stand out to you?

And real quick, if this absolutely what the client needs then I assume the solution would be to dual boot my Mac and run the Windows version of Sorenson?
