When using the trial, Avid also looks at the age of project and can give this save and quite message if it is older than 30 days. A little weird, I know. Are you running a project that you got with the official curriculum? If so, you just need to create a new project, open the bins from the old one and move the sequences and clips over. This should resolve the issue.

Avid will only scan for files in Avid Media Files -> MXf -> 1 (or 2,3,4 etc). When you open Avid it scans here and creates an mdb (media database) file for all the clips in that folder. One way to import all the mxf files in a folder is to import that mdb.

Errr… no you didn’t as you paid more than the RRP. Meaning you would have paid less to buy it from a reputable dealer, rather than some guy on Craigslist. Avid’s only cost silly money if you buy a computer, software and hardware package.

That’s insane. They only tested this amazing feature with 720p23.98 footage? Is that even a format that anyone shoots? I think the working around for now is to do a compound clip with the footage manually sunk (synced? what is past tense of sync??) and then edit that into the project.

Over on the Avid site forum Avid employees have said they are working really hard to get it approved and have hinted it will be a 5.5.3 update for Lion, with no charge. But Lion has been out, what, about 2 weeks? Considering the differences between the beta and the release version its unsurprising that they haven’t got it yet. I don’t see why are so impatient. I remember getting Windows Vista and not being able to get a driver for a midi keyboard I owned for about 6 months. For a midi keyboard! Avid need to approve half a dozen pieces of software and hardware and support for 3rd party hardware.

I’ve used the same method Shane has and it works well. Been a while, but I thought that just exporting ProRes straight out of Avid removed the gamma shift for me and made things a little easier to handle. Can’t remember the exact workflow I ended up with now.

I usually just embed the files (as WAV 48KHZ 24bit) in the folder with the AAF and it’s always worked fine for me.

Not as far as I’m aware. Pitch and speed changes were always done in the audio suite which didn’t have any keyframes. But I have not yet done much playing with the RTAS capabilities of MC5, so perhaps someone else knows a way to achieve this.

A little more info. If I open up the synchronised clip in the timeline I can get the two to roughly sync up by retiming the audio to 96%. Which is the difference between 24 and 25 fps. So I would guess that is the issue. But how exactly do I force FCPX to interpret the audio correctly at 25fps? It seems to do it right when editing it into a 25p sequence but not when putting it into a 25p synchronised clip. It also insists on rendering every time I create a synchronised clip, why?

Sequence is set to match video at 1080p25 and in the sequence they stay in sync. But if I select them both in the event library and choose synchronise they are out and if I double click on the synced clip it loads up in the timeline and even if I line up the claps, they drift out of sync, both visually and audibly.
