Yes I confess to having felt very clever with myself…but it is not all good. I have had considerable trouble with rendering on this project, so much so that PP has become unworkable. I am about to put up another thrad pleading for help!

April 24, 2015 at 8:10 am in reply to: “unlink’ button

Just to say, sorry for not having come back to this thread earlier. Of these two suggestions the only one that seems to work to unlink video from the attached audio is alt+click on one or other of the tracks (ie on the video or the audio tracks). The “global unlink” only happens when you highlight a ;linked clip and then “control+click” to bring up a drop down menu. I have not been able to get “command+L” to work.

February 23, 2015 at 10:24 am in reply to: Carnet? ProForma? Travel docs for USA

    HI,

I am still looking for advice on this subject. Has anyone travelled recently from the UK to the US and knows the ropes on taking a small DSLR or c300 equivalent shooting rig with them? What paperwork is required?

    Thanks

    Thanks Andy,

Yes I found the OMF Export tool and that all worked pretty well.

The main issue for me is knowing what knobs to press in Audition and which filters work best for what. It was just easier to give the work to our local audio studio to mix down for me!

November 11, 2014 at 10:46 am in reply to: Graphics problem after Yosemite upgrade

OK so this is not helpful…but my rule of thumb, having been caught out a few times with Apple OS upgrades is…”Don’t upgrade unless you really have to!”

I lost Photoshop for years when I did one system upgrade and PS3 was no longer supported. I am now using Adobe CS 6 and still using FCP7 (for BBC jobs) and both run fine on my current system. So even thought I am now two steps behind Yosemite…(I think I am on Snow Leopard still) I am not going to upgrade any time soon.

I have a plan to get a new MacBook Pro (to replace my steam driven machine that is now 8 years old – hey it still works geezers!) and I will test any software on that before blindly upgrading to the next OS.

The bottom line is if your OS is good enough for you to be able to deliver content to your clients’ don;t mess with it. These people (Apple, Adobe & Chums) are just after your money and they do not care one bit about your workflow or your business. The truth is that the OS and the software have actually been good enough for years!

June 17, 2014 at 3:00 pm in reply to: PP Error message on recording voicetrack

So the fix seems to have been just to save the project file under a new file name and just crack on. Must have been a corrupted plist file or cache or something I think…

Anyone who actually knows that the issue may be is of course welcome to chip in !

June 17, 2014 at 12:20 pm in reply to: PP Error message on recording voicetrack

    OK. Very odd.

This issue only affects one track, the track that I have been recording all my other VO guide track to.

I have opened up a new track and I have no trouble recording here. Could the issue be that I now have one corrupt audio track in the edit?

Odd…but at least it looks like I can carry on working until I can find a fix…!

    Ta Da indeed!

    Brilliant…

    A blooming lifesaver in fact!

The issue I am am facing is the long term sustainability of my FCP 7 workflow. At some point in the not to distant future I can foresee a OSX system upgrade from Apple that will render FCP 7 entirely inoperable, rendering edits from all old film projects dead. We have seen this before when Apple moved from Motorola PowerPC to Intel chips and not too long ago when my old version of Photoshop as disabled in an OSX update.

    Thanks for you help!

May 16, 2014 at 4:35 pm in reply to: XML to premiere pro

    Thanks for this.

The sequence opens fine in PP via the XML but the aspect ratio is a mess! I assume that I need to match the settings for the FCP sequence in the new PP sequence, but no matter what combinations I try I cannot seem to send up with anything but a squashed 4;3 frame. The sequence should be 16:9.

Not quite sure where I reset the footage interpretation. Again I assumed that since I have downloaded the ProRes codecs that PP would be able to manage this, but perhaps what I need to do is to select another code in FCP first and then export…?

    Any further clues/ideas appreciated.
