I have not tried to create a new user login but did trash my preferences on my 2nd attempt at uninstall/reinstall. There has to be another file that the uninstaller does not remove or change back to what it was that I am not seeing.
I have not yet installed High Sierra. This is just on Sierra (10.12.6). I installed Media 100 2.1.8 fresh and was opening some projects and making sure they worked. Everything was working for awhile when the system crashed. Then, the application would no longer open at all. Every time I tried and even with different projects, it wouldn’t get past the opening screen before it crashed.
I ended up re-imaging the machine I was on and installing 2.1.8 again so I am up and running but I am worried this is only temporary until it crashes again. It would be helpful to know how to fix this issue in the future if it occurs and what files need to be changed or deleted in order to regain functionality.

Hey Nick,
Thanks for responding. I cut the clips midway through the dissolve in order to get the best out of the Neat Video de-noise plugin (which worked the best when cutting midway through the dissolve and applying the de-noise filter to each clip separately. The final video looks much better than when I did it any other way. Even better when rendered in the Pro-res timeline.
Yes, for color grading, having the cut midway through the dissolve didn’t work very well as I mentioned in my initial post. I also tried having the dissolve on one end and that didn’t work well either. The only way I have found that produces decent results is to keyframe the grading through the dissolve as David and Michael have suggested above. I will have to do this for all 26 shots as they all transition through a dissolve. Thanks.

I started working on Media 100 as my first NLE in 1997. After sporadically using FCP for a couple of years, I have used it almost exclusively since 2003 when Media 100 seemed lost and I needed a solution to more complex editing then Media 100 couldn’t handle at the time. Throughout those years, I continued to purchase upgrades to Media 100 since I have a few projects that get updated on a yearly basis that I still use Media 100 for.
Boris FX has done a great job bringing all the features I left Media 100 for FCP to their current Media 100 software and today, after seeing where FCP-X is going, I know where I am returning to. It’s already compatible with my workflow, uses my existing AJA hardware, all my peripherals, my storage, and guess what, it’s already installed on my system. If you are looking for a robust alternative to the “NON-Pro” FCP-X, take a serious look at Media 100 today. It still has the most intuitive interface I’ve ever encountered and can handle many formats and edit modes (including multicam – which was one of those reasons I left them years ago). Maybe in a few years time I’ll look at Apple again. However, FCP-X is a poor excuse for a “professional” editing application that does not meet my needs or the needs of most of my colleagues.

Hey Alex,
Your configuration looks pretty good. My only observation/suggestions surrounds your graphics card choice. Are you doing a lot of work in Color?? If not, I would stick with the nVidia card. A lot of programs (such as the new Adobe CS5 suite) are optimized for nVidia chipsets. If using Color was your primary focus of this machine, I would use the ATI, but in most cases, I’d just use the stock GT120. If you wanted to upgrade the video card to something more advanced, I would recommend the nVidia Quadro FX 4800MAC; since it would be a significant upgrade and would allow you to take advantage of the new features in CS5 and also give you an upgrade path to Autodesk Smoke For Mac. However, for a lite-duty machine, the $1500 price tag of the 4800 is pretty steep. On the other hand, I see no benefits to spending the extra $200 for the ATI unless you are using Color a lot.

There should be NO ISSUES installing Leopard on any EXISTING mac hardware right now. Apple has not made ANY hardware releases since Snow Leopard was released so even if you purchase a new computer with Snow Leopard pre-installed, it will still run Leopard just fine since Leopard was the only OS available when the machine was introduced. Case in point, the latest Mac Pro systems require OS 10.5.6 or later since Mac OS 10.5.6 was the OS they originally shipped with. Until Apple releases new hardware, you can still install Leopard on it (just make sure you know what the minimum version of the OS you need and if you are using the restore disks that came with the system that they are for that system). For instance, if you purchased a Mac Pro right now with Snow Leopard but purchased one 3 weeks ago with Leopard, you can use the Leopard disks on that new system since they are both identical hardware. (although I don’t know if that violates Apple EULA).
In the future, when Apple releases new hardware, they will require Snow Leopard since it is the current shipping OS. They should not run Leopard.

You have Tiger. Anything Mac OS X 10.4.x is Tiger and anything Mac OS X 10.5.x is Leopard. Likewise 10.6.x is Snow Leopard. Hope this helps.

ATTO drivers for 32 and 64 bit Snow Leopard are now available. The new drivers may require a firmware and BIOS update to the cards as well.
