Hey Gary,

I can’t for the life of me remember if the Media 100i could digitize audio over SDI. The Convergent Design box will embed the audio in the down-converted SDI signal. In the Hardware settings panel where you control what video and audio signals you are working with, see if there is an audio option for SDI in addition to AES/EBU. If there is, then you should be good to go. If not, then you need a different Convergent Design unit that breaks out the HDV signal to AES/EBU. Let me know if this helps.

I’d also like to add a congratulations to the Media 100 team for a wonderful job keeping my favorite editing system going. The first system I learned editing on was a Media 100 3.5 system in high school. I’ve been using Media 100 for the last 12 years as much as I can since I haven’t found a more streamlined editing atmosphere. Bought my first lowest end Media 100 system while in college in 2002. Now with the multicam features, I can stop using FCP for my projects that call for it and continue to use my favorite interface.

If you are a Media 100 user, you all know how intuitive the editing interface is and how it makes you look at things different than most editing systems. I wish they would get the word out there about this product more since so many people should be using it. If people actually spent some time thinking in the Media 100 style, they’ll realize what they’ve been missing.

Media 100i is SD only. HD capabilities didn’t come to Media 100 until the HDx release of Media 100. There is no audio connection from the converter because SDI and HD-SDI can embed audio in signal. The HDV signal (audio and video) travels over firewire to the converter where it come out HD-SDI. I’m not sure if those converters do a down convert but you can only bring SD into a Media 100i system.
