Just saw this thread by chance.
Here how FCPX works (and I don’t like it):
Once you want to back a project and want to add used clips to the new event you get a new project with a new uid and a new event with a new uid (to avoid collisions).
But if you think that’s a backup you are wrong.
The event finally is a more less empty event which references the original event(s) and the media or media aliases inside this event. So if inside the original media of a referenced event(s) there are aliases the backup only will reference to “an alias of an alias”.To make a “self contained” backup you have to select the new event and select “Organize Media…” this will copy ALL needed source files into the new event and make into a independent event.
This is not really effective and has nothing to do with a real “Organize Media” but it’s the only way to make a safe backup right now.If you’re familiar with XML you can take that route to organize the new event.

It’s easy to copy things from a sparse bundle.
Just quit FCPX take the Event/Project structure and copy it to the RAID.
Unmount/detach the Sparse.
Relaunch FCPX. You might have to re-connect files.Sparse bundles (images) can get go corrupt — same as any file or disk.
A little advantage is that in most cases you can repair them using DiskUtility. With a corrupt disk you don’t have a chance.While most people don’t think about file fragmentation these days (the OS does it to certain extend) big files maybe not de-fragmented. So with all the file to file relations this can slow down something like FCPX.
Disk space is cheap and therefore it’s always a good idea to backup to a freshly initialized drive and initialize the source drive (after verified backup). Then make a backup of the backup to the source disk (not volume or drive).

one thing you also should be aware is that all text entries behave like rtf files. so for example for roll or scroll you can create a file in textedit with all the formating you need, copy it and paste it into a template text entry.
this way you have external templates.-andreas

You have to quit and relaunch FCPX to make your updated templates to be used in your projects.
But be careful this will affect all projects which used that template.Andreas

I’ve uploaded a new version again.
I allows to create “smart user disk setup files” which you just can double-click in the Finder to mount or unmount your disks.
https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/diskHandler/diskHandler.dmgDon’t worry about destroying something. The app is a read only app (different from FCPX). The only thing it writes are the “smart user disk setup files” as a normal XML.
Would appreciate any feedback.

I just realized there was a bundle missing in the version I uploaded.
Just download again.
Something I realized when I connected several drives last night is that the app might stall a while when a corrupted drive is connected. In case it happens just wait a while in the first loop for checking drives it will show all non corrupted drives.

Check out a beta (works reliable with missing features) of my diskHandler. It uses the same Unix code as DiskUtility but has batch functionality. More features will follow.
