The app can’t do that.

But here some ideas.

1)
a) First in X create a new project. Put a 3 or more second subtitle – that one you will work with later – into it, add a role then duplicate till you reach the max amount of subtitles you expect. Export as XML. Keep this XML for later use.
b) Then use my X-Title export and import the XML. So you will have xy dummy subtitles. Export the XML from there as STL text. Keep the exported file as well for later use.
c) In Excel create a 3 column layout: TC in, TC out, Text dummy. Import the STL into Excel. You should keep this document as well cause its the base for all of your later projects.
d) Now open the “real” text Excel doc and copy the text column. Replace the text column in the dummy with the real text. Replace all line breaks in the text with “|” (pipe character).
e) Copy the rows you need and paste into a new text document. Save it and you will have again a text STL though with dummy TCs.
f) Take my X-Title Importer and create a secondary storyline for X with these subtitles.
g) Open the exported XML in X and add the storyline to the project you are working on.
h) Now you can drag and trim the subtitles.

2)
a) Put your favorite subtitle in the timeline were you need them with correct in and out – don’t change the text.
b) Export the project as XML.
c) Convert to STL with X-Title Export.
d) Import this file into Excel.
e) like 1 d-h

Why are you using XML and not just emailing yourself a copy of the project sans media?

Hi Ron,

I’m not sure what you did wrong.
Anyway selecting/deselecting roles does not have any influence when exporting XML.
Currently the app probably only works with projects which have subtitles only.
So you can try to copy all subtitles and paste them into a new project and export that one as XML.

I had some material (about 2 hours each with 2 cams for 3d stereo)
FCPX totally failed and I gave just fun 10.1 a try. 10.1 definitively is better, but still doesn’t work.

I tried AE and Resolve (for Resolve I hadn’t enough time).
Finally I gave Lock & Load a chance. I had by far the best results.

The full download is huge but even the preview shows pretty good the difference.

I posted the same question on an other forum.

This was something I immediately tried when I got the new FCPX and Motion.
It’s ridiculous that they didn’t fix it. But I think it’s not a FCPX but a Motion Bug.

Depending on the jobs which are announced for January I maybe will rewrite the little app I did for FCP.

I just gave it a try with a rebuild of my old stuff.
In last versions this feature just was missing.
Now it is really buggy. With old versions you where able to open the clip in timeline and apply the TCR.
That’s something you can do now as well. The TC is displayed correctly.
BUT once you edit this (compound) clip to the timeline everything is screwed up.

I did something similar about a decade ago For FCP (and other apps) and two years ago for FCPX.

So why not just creating the app and see what happens.

Using titles as replacement for markers and setting regions is not a real bad workaround.
There had been the overlays in FCP legacy (though not when playing the timeline). Using titles in FCP legacy often enough required rendering for smooth playback, FCPX is way more comfortable in this case.
As for regions with titles I’m meanwhile somehow get used to it. Sometimes it’s even better then setting I/Os in the timeline since I can save several I/Os and select them by the titles name. But I still don’t know whether I should love or hate that.
