Excellent Robert, this did the trick for me !!
I had hopelessly underexposed night footage from a boat in the open sea where the lights didn’t reach anymore.
I was able to isolate the dark areas with the luma invert matte and blur them, when at the same time I could crank the light areas up on the duplicate layer. perfect.

btw: “go buy a better camera next time” is also a good idea – but Roberts suggestion was definately more helpful in this situation 🙂

    Hi,
I found a different way to achieve the handwriting / jitter effect:

    1. create a textlayer (preferably using a handwriting font).
    2. create a solid with fractal noise, I used standard settings, contrast 125, brightness 45, and a scaling of 55. (this may very with the size of your comp or text)
    3. apply this expression to the evolution value: time*2500
    4. Precompose the fractal noise layer
    5. drop the “displacement map”- effect onto your textlayer
    6. choose the fractal noise map as the displacement map layer
    7. use luminance for vertical and horizontal displacement
    8. play with the displacement values (I used “3”).
    9. drop the “posterize time” effect onto the text layer
    10. set it to around 8 frames to increase jittering.

    voila!

December 30, 2009 at 8:13 pm in reply to: Dual Adapter question

    I had the same problem:
“Install Failed! The following install step failed: run preflight script for P2(japanese letters). contact the software manufacturer for assistance.”

After waisting half a day looking for workarounds I finally found the answer to the problem:

I hand installed the “P2PCCard.kext” Extension file I have found in the corrupt installer package with the help of this webpage:
    https://grafikdesign.wordpress.com/2008/02/23/how-do-i-install-a-kext-file/

    This did the job!

That duel adapter really gave me a lot of headaches recently, last week I had to learn the hard way that it is not supported in snow leopard – just after running the upgrade from 10.5! So I had to reinstall everything (no time machine, stuiped me….)

  • Is there any recommandation for the proper codec when playing out a PAL/NTSC Sequence from Avid?
I have experienced a high pedestal upon import when using any of the FCP Quicktimee Codecs.
The Avid DV Codec simply turns out as black inside FCP
