I’ve been wrestling with this one since about 6:00 a.m. At one point, I tried to do what I think is they way you are describing; basically, copying the comp and the “presets” within in them (and I’m not sure the term I am using “preset” is actually the correct term; but, within every layer there’s another layer within it, one for motion, the other for effects, masking, etc. The point is I copied everything into a new layer, then renamed the new independent layer, then had planned on doing that…about 20 times….since I’ve got at least 20 football players on this youth football team. BUT two things happened: 1) I couldn’t get the new independent layer (clip length on timeline) the same length as the old one I was replacing, and 2) When I double clicked on the new layer, the new different photo would appear there (I could see it which was assuring). But, the photo wouldn’t show when I scrubbed through the new compilation from the beginning. I was thinking that I needed to render but wasn’t sure. In the end, these two factors discouraged me; and so it was at that point I went online to look for answers and for several hours before reaching out to the Forum. I should also mention (for what it’s worth) is that took myself through the online courses this morning at video co-pilot.net which were very helpful but didn’t get into (I think) this specific situation. That’s the extent of my AE experience outside editing but I think I could really get into it. Thanks for your response. I’m going to go right back at it and see where it may lead. I’ll update later. Thanks for responding. Yes, I can’t change the photos as easily as I would like. Can you please give me a vector on how best to change in a nested comp? Here’s a short video that I’ve posted to help describe my situation. Many thanks!

Thanks for responding, Dave. I’d really appreciate all the help I can get. BTW, I was an AP for WMBB-TV (ABC) in Panama City, Panama, years ago. At any rate, yes the layer is within a composition, within a composition. The precise steps, I double click on the layer in which I want to replace the photo, and I can replace the photo, and the new photo goes where I want. The only problem it replaces the photo in all of the other layers, as well. I’ve prepared a short video illustrating the problem. If you could take a look but I’m sure I have to do something that I’ve never done before. If you can give me a vector on how to get further down the road, I’d appreciate it. Thanks again. I’m having the same problem. In my case, though, I captured video (Canon XL2, DV Cassette) with Sony Vegas Pro 9 (64-bit) which created an AVI file. The AVI file plays great on my media players (audio and video). But, when I import into Vegas, only video shows on the timeline…no audio. I tried to convert the AVI to MPEG2 since my MPEG2s are importing fine but it didn’t fix the audio and I lost a lot of quality too boot. Needless to say, I need to find a solution. Anything you can offer is appreciated.

Hello, guys. Wish I could contribute to an explanation but I can’t because I’m experiencing the same problem myself. In my case, I just built another edit workstation running Vegas 9 Pro and Windows 7. The RAW video is fine — shot with XL2 and XHA1. I captured video through Nero Vision 9, which created an .avi file or .mpeg (depending on XL2 or XHA1 footage). I can play back these videos with audio outside of Sony Vegas. But, when I import them into Vegas (.avi or .mpeg)the audio doesn’t make the timeline. If it’s an .avi file, I get an audio track but it shows just a straight line and there is no audio. With the MPEG imports, Vegas doesn’t bring the audio track to the timeline (video only). Any insight into helping understand what’s going on is more than appreciated. Andre

Y’up. That’s what I’m doing now…managing hard drive space to make room for the recapture on another drive. Still got an hour or so to go to move the files. Losing a lot of production time here, but… Thanks for the come back. I’ll update again after I complete more steps. Thanks again.

thanks again for the input . i delivered the project although it may have been missing some details. then, i needed to get some rest. i’m back on my horse again. it’s almost 2:00 a.m. just want to say that i did NOT try restoring my computer to an earlier date. but, i’ll keep it in mind for the next time. i did, just now, though, right click the white .veg file but there was no option to open it. thanks super thanks again to all.

well, guys. i guess i have good news and bad news. good news is i learned and now know very well where sony vegas saves the auto saved files. i was able to see which file i lost by looking at the date. so, the bad news, is the most recent auto save, closest to the time of my crash, there was a file, but it’s corrupted, and won’t open. the only other file was from several hours earlier but at least if i charge on it now, there’s a chance that i can salvage my relationships. i just hope it doesn’t do it again. i guess i’m going to manually save and change the file name in the process.

mike: thanks for your input. what i mean when i say that i can see the veg.bak files, i’m looking at an all white file, like faded out, a file foot print, if you will, doesn’t look normal like my “normal” project files which don’t show an extension. sorry but i don’t know how to better explain. i’m going to look through my temporary folder. i think the file is currupted for some reason, but if i can just get ONE good last saved version, i can deliver something to these guys and try to keep my job!
