Then replace it with an older version (the one I used was from April 2005). You should use a previous version from before you installed Leopard. If you don’t have one I can mail it to you.

I am happy to say that Cinewave works better than ever before! Ironic isn’t it?

I have no problems with DV50 sequences playback, or DV25/50 material in a Cinewave sequence. The update is fast and smooth, and dynamic realtime in the DV sequences also works well. Today I upgraded to 10.4.2 and FCP 5.02, no problems there either.

I am reluctant to try out the Decklink now that Cinewave works so well. One of the problems I have with my G5 is that the motherboard is noisy and leaks to the internal speaker, but also to the Decklink card on SP/DIF so the audio isn’t clean.

I guess we can move this thread over to the Cinewave forum now, I guess they all need some good news over there.

Hello Rob,

No, there’s no green line with Cinewave, and I’m running FCP5. As a matter of fact I only got it up and running today, having given up and taken a holiday (!) when I found out I had no video out on either card (which later out to be the Automatic Duck problem). As far as I can see everything runs like it used to do with 4.5, alas the green line is now on the Decklink card (which I have now removed the drivers from).

One thing though: None of the DV50 sequences on the tv-series I’ve been working will play back properly from the old sequences created in 4.5. I have to create new sequences in FCP5 and they then play fine in realtime. A matter of cut and paste and a bit of rendering on non-real time stuff (3rd-party filters), and everything seems fine. So that’s about it for now. I’ll start working properly again on Wednesday, and I’ll give you an update if there are other issues.

Not quite the answer you are looking for, but for what it’s worth:

I have both a Decklink HD and a Cinewave card in the same G5. The Cinewave has both analogue and SDI breakout boxes, and I alternate between using Decklink and Cinewave depending on project. Most of the time this setup works almost flawlessly, but for bandwidth-demanding stuff like HD capture I usually temporarily remove the Cinewave drivers (or vice versa). On FCP startup Cinewave will always warn me about another Quicktime card and driver being present, but still this doesn’t seem to cause much trouble on SDI and DV projects.

Since Cinewave cards are now officially discontinued by Pinnacle, you might be able to pick one up at a very good price. The card still works fine under 10.4 and should remain doing so up until (and perhaps beyond) the next major upgrade of OSX and/or FCP. Decklink cards also play back Cinewave files in realtime with no conversion, so you’ll find the two working together quite well on the same machine.

A DV25 file that plays fine via Deck Control will will not play out when converted to DV50. For a fraction of a second the viewer will display the first frame when I open the clip, then it goes all garbled. There is video output to Decklink with movement/frames, but twisted and distorted.

DV25 clips in FCP5 will play fine in the timeline but not out to Decklink. The video monitor goes black and clips play fine on the computer monitor but not on Decklink output. However, when I set video playback to “wireframe” the Decklink output will update with still frames every time I stop or scrub to a new point in the timeline, i.e when the computer playback is off (black). Odd.

PS: My colleague has no video output at all, however this could be due to his way of upgrading a la the points noted on Blackmagic’s support pages. I did a complete clean install with formatted disk and all.

And DVCProHD clips play fine too. They are converted from Decklink AUC 10bit HD to DCVProHD via Quicktime Player and not native files recorded as such, but they seem to play fine in Deck Control. I’ll try to convert something into DV50 via Quicktime and see if that makes any difference.

I believe this is a fairly common problem in PAL, no? I have a colleague who seems to have the same problem, I’ll check and see if it is identical.

Anyway, DV25 clips play out fine via theDeck Control application, both PAL and NTSC. Also AUC 8/10 bit SD or HD and Cinewave clips, but just not DV50. All I get is a garbled picture from DV50 (anamorphic).

No-one said Safari was perfect, but this is a rather significant bug. Hell, I cannot even post my replies here with Safari, it just gives me error messages. I guess we should expect a patch quite soon.
