  • FCP6 on Leopard – DCDP and keyboard problems

Posted by Tony Van mellaert on December 24, 2007 at 11:41 am

I installed a fresh copy of Leopard on a second drive, installed FCPstudio2 and did all the upgrades, installed the new Kona driver, and now there are some strange things happening:
    1) I cannot use Digital Cinema Desktop Preview anymore, the option has dissapeared. I can only use it for the main window.
    2) Every time I open FCP I have to select the keyboard layout again, it seems to forget the choice I’ve made. (I use azerty-belgium)

When I start up my Tiger on the same machine I have no problems of this sort.

I tried trashing the preferences and Plist, upgraded the X1900XT firmware… no use

    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanx, and merry X!!

    I use a Mac Pro 8-core, Radeon X1900XT, 2X ACD23

    Look in this folder:
    MacintoshHD/library/quicktime

    throw out:
    DesktopVideoOut.component

Then replace it with an older version (the one I used was from April 2005). You should use a previous version from before you installed Leopard. If you don’t have one I can mail it to you.

I just tried it, I used a DesktopVideoOut.component file from an old Tiger backup, but nothing has changed. I tried reinstalling everything and noticed Digital Cinema Desktop Preview was working fine untill I installed the AJA Kona driver. Afterwards the option Digital Cinema Desktop Preview and the one with “full screen” have disapeared. Only the one with “main” is left.
So it must have something to do with the Aja driver…

I just installed Leopard update 10.5.2, but the problem is still there…
Actually all the bugs are still there:
    – export using compressor from FCP : Final cut pro generated an error!
    – option Digital Cinema desktop preview disapeared.
    – Keyboard layout disapeares.

If you have the same problems as I do, maybe we can compare hardware to see what we have in common that could be causing this problem.

    I use a Mac Pro 8-core 3Ghz, XT1900, Aja Kona Lhe…

I haven’t noticed a keyboard problem here yet, but had nearly the same scenario is you — until I simply opened the Displays System Preferences panel, and re-selected the settings for my two displays. I think the system was not recognizing them properly, although it was displaying info on them. It might be a question of persistent settings problems, like what you sometimes get with the “Startup Disk” item. Anyway I restarted and now DCDP is available.
