Last January the Blackmagic representative told me that it was FCP that does the conversion from 60i to 24p and that this feature is not built into the Mac version of Media Composer. He said he would put this on the wish list for future versions of the Intensity driver. I don’t know if this has happened–or even if it’s possible. It would also be something for the wish list of Media Composer. Does anyone have any information about whether this feature is in the works?

  • I finally bought Encore and tried the workflow suggested by Emmanuel Presselin and the demuxer posted by Bouke Vahl. It all worked: a BD from HDV without transcoding!

The demuxer requires Flash Player 11, and the current version, 12.5, won’t run on OS 10.7.5. Fortunately, I keep OS 10.6.8 on another startup disk, did the demuxing there, and went back to 10.7.5 for import into Encore.

    Many, many thanks!

    Jeff,

Thank you. This solves it. The Adobe online tutorials and documentation I found don’t mention this. I expected to find everything I saw in the tutorial (the one posted by the nice guy in the big truck, which seems official or semi-official).

    Many thanks.

Is it possible to avoid the double-transcoding–first to H.264 and then to mpeg2?

I’ve been trying to solve the same problem using an Intensity Pro card. Blackmagic Support tells me that although Final Cut Pro and Windows operating systems permit this conversion, Media Composer on Mac does not. I can see a correct output of 24p material if I set the MC format to 60i, but this means that the project will all be in 60i. There’s no way to change the setting of such a project back to 24p.

  • If I start with a new sequence, then add a new video track, it appears at the bottom as V2. If I add a third track, it appears at the top above V1.

  • Many thanks. Your advice solved it. For some reason, V1 appeared above V2 and I put the effect on the wrong track (carefully following the appearance of the tutorial where I could see the positioning of the tracks but not the numbering). I’m used to FCP, where the bottom video track is always V1. And yes, I’m using Avid media files (DNxHD 145). Again, thank you.

Yes, that’s what I’ve been doing. I was just wondering if there was a way to export directly from FCP to Compressor 4.

    Compressor 3 wouldn’t encode for Blu-Ray.
