For statics (not motion graphic designs)

I like the idea of creating a master Photoshop document with Layers.

This makes it easy to go back and as a group change layer styles and fonts. This is something that’s not so easy to do with the titler.

plus if you decide later that you want to do something in AE…

the PSD will work there too…

  • Since the multicam sources are just sources in a sequence timeline…

if you slip and slide the sources in the source timeline….the changes will ripple on the destination timeline….

I’d HIGHLY recommend doing this in a copy of the project file…so you can go back to the start point if you have to….

  • Well….I think the bottom line is….in a file based acquisition world, where many formats are based GOP structures. Truncating source while working native is not easily doable.

Today….bring all you media off your camera storage and pull truncated/transcoded selects thru Prelude and edit in PPro.

once the project is complete you can delete you original source and as long as you truncated/transcoded your selects on ingest to a non GOP media type you’re good for Project Mgmt consolidation.

If the Project manager were to include a transcode function or a pass thru of AME to make a non GOP version during consolidation….that might get you what you want in the future.

Certainly worthy of a feature request.

    Nope….no penalty.

I have worked in facilities from 2 to 10 stations. (both of which I had a hand in architecting)

One with a dedicated fibre attached SAN. One with a Fast Raid where the 2nd machine was drive letter mapped the same array via GigE.

My experience is that PPro doesn’t much care as long as it has the path to the file, and that the topology playing back the file has the overhead necessary for all users to see it.

Because there is no “owner” or Database in control….It might be wise to set media permissions to READ ONLY once material is brought online and meta tagged to prevent inadvertent deletion when more than one person is accessing a file for work.

So bottom line….Browsing and using the same media files…no worries…project collaboration…is doable…but some workflows work better than others….

for example…serial passing of projects work fine….one editor starts and does an offline. 2nd editor in another suite picks up the project and does an online….or in some way pushes a project along.

But merging of projects split amongst multiple editors has traditionally created project bloat in PPro. This may have changed recently though….as I understand that if a sequence from another project is imported through the Media Browser Panel may not suffer the traditional redundant media object build up that was the case previously.

maybe someone else can chime in?

  • If you want to subclip source material destructively…

then start in your project in Prelude for your basic logging.

there you can make new media from material you marks.

Come to think of it Joseph….

You may be able to just download the trial of PPro to get it to work…

    this I did not do….give it a shot….

    Nope….

Here’s what I did when I got to the office.

Logged to our workgroup server (where I had trial of Bridge)
    Logged into my CC account
    Installed only PPro
    Ran PPro and Quit.
    Quit and relaunched Bridge.
Bridge Prompted me to add PPro Bridge Module. (i said yes)
now I can play video files.
Now I Log out of CC account.

And Bridge is still working. So it appears you just need to install PPro to get the video module enabled for Bridge.

Then you can exit the CC account leaving it free for machines you actually need to do work on and Bridge should continue to work on the “unlogged” CC machine.

    make sense?

So on this machine I started with Bridge Trial….

then I floated my CC license from work home….and installed video apps…

today Bridge Prompted me to add a bunch of modules: PPro, After Effects among them…

sure enough I can now play videos and get thumbnails….

    Let me clarify…
    I’m running only Bridge CC…

so it’s not CC….it’s Bridge without video apps.

Is your Bridge CC subscribed to the cloud or are you just running the free apps?

Maybe you can try simply installing PPro CC (even if you don’t intend to run it) on that machine and see what changes.

Maybe cloud will prompt you to install some Bridge video modules. I think it did suggest an update to me a few months ago and that’s where MXF support came from.

And this is EXACTLY what I mean….why are we out here just having to figure this out? Adobe….please just make it it clear what needs to be done….and we can do it…
