Hey Graham,
With info you posted, I am going to do the best I can to try and emulate your projects. I may need more info so I may be bothering you a bit more.
We have been brainstorming ideas about what may be happening. Out of curiosity, are you using the Adobe Media Encoder to export the podcasts? Hopefully from the test project I set up, I will be able to identify or at least rule out some possibilities.

My name is Alex and Im a qe at Adobe. I’m sorry that you have been facing these issues and that they have been slowing you down. I was curious if you have had a case yet where the problem did not occur and that it was able to render succesfully through the night?
If you were interested, I think it would be a great idea if maybe you could send us a problematic test project with media so that we could run the test on a clean system here to help further identify what might be causing the render to hang and the subsequent crash. I’ll look into this end in seeing how we could perhaps make it where you could send us that. Let me know when you can as I would love to help out and try and solve this.
