I am still learning what each module does and the associated costs; Softron does have a forum here on CC though where I am sure someone will answer questions.

Non-destructively (read-only), on a different system. In my shop, I have a system with 3 different types of eSATA ports and an eSATA dock. Plug the drive in, test it with HD_Speed (allows to bench a physical drive vs. a drive letter).
Another HD_Speed’s nifty feature (that neither WinSAT disk not BMD Disk Speed can do) is the ability to dial in the offset, e.g. “test at 99% capacity” which shows how the speed decreases towards the end of the drive.

Can’t find if there is a way to force 1882 into PCIe 1.0 mode (only 2.0 mode – the card is PCIe 3.0 technically).
That said, it’s being used in 1.0 slots fine (with decreased bandwidth of course) so I’d suspect machine-specific compatibility issues.
Any chance you could try it first in a PCIe 1.0 slot in a non-HP machine first, before taking it up to Areca support?

Pretty sure S-Video, composite, and component refer to signal transmission and cable types but never to recorded signals:

Correct me if I am wrong: (S)VHS, Betacam (SP) are all dual component formats (luma and chroma), the difference being that (S)VHS and Hi8 used a single track with “color-under modulation” to record the two components, and Betacam (SP) used two actual physically separate tracks?
In which case, the old broadcast rule of thumb, “use the best cables possible regardless of the recorded signal”, still applies?

Dug up a couple other pieces of info: SCART may not support S-Video out if it’s wired for RGB:
“Both S-Video and audio (mono or stereo) signals can be transferred through SCART connections as well. However, it is not part of the original SCART standard, so many SCART-compatible devices do not support it for this reason. Also, S-Video and RGB are mutually exclusive through SCART, due to S-Video using some of the pins allocated for RGB. Most SCART-equipped televisions and VCRs (and almost all of the older ones) do not support S-Video, resulting in a monochrome picture if such a connection is attempted, as only the luminance signal portion is usable. A monochrome picture could also be a sign of incompatible colour encoding: for example, NTSC material viewed through a PAL-only device.”

SCART connectors may output RGB as well (depending on your equipment) and if they do, I don’t believe it’s compatible with Blackmagic Design products, most of them accepting only YUV (YPbPr) signal:

Sounds like an HP RAID controller? HP server as well? Which ones? The OS – Linux?
Did you see this tutorial?
Have you tried running an HP ACU GUI version? (That would make array expansion a no-brainer.)

Can’t beat DAS for speeds and value… Why not just add a fast box via direct-attach (eSATA, USB 3.0, MiniSAS, etc.) and then share it on your network via your editing station?
One of the faster units: ProAvio (Enhance), G-Speed, etc.

This is strange, usually writes are slower – especially with RAID6.
Areca has decent support – tried contacting them?
Have you tried benching individual drives? Sometimes a single rogue drive brings down the array’s performance – sometimes in unusual ways.

Maybe that particular VCR doesn’t support S-Video either – only composite. Which would make sense given its luma-only output.

I think you are in good shape with these numbers. Your previous numbers indicated 100MB/s for a single drive; getting between 260 and 300MB/s for a three-drive RAID0 is a decent number. To go higher, you’d either use faster drives, or more drives, like Margus said.
