As far as I know, regular LCD monitors, projectors, TVs aren’t 3D-ready unless they specifically say they are. That includes Apple displays, i.e. they aren’t 3D-ready.

Here is one popular choice: ASUS VG236HE.

    There are many more.

    Tim,

Will 590 be any faster than a 580 for Pr purposes? My understanding was that 590 is dual 580; Pr can’t use two GPUs for GPU accel; thus, no point in a 590? Is there logic in that?

If there is, then is 580 a better recommendations purely for Pr purposes than a Q4000, provided the system is compatible of course? (Please note two qualifiers: “purely for Pr purposes” and “compatible”)

Glad to help. Check out Newegg prices just in case. They are crazy – lower than my distributor prices.

These two are exact same drives – one “retail” (in a box), the other one “bare”. For some inexplicable reason (anyone?) that I haven’t googled yet, the retail one sells for less than the bare one. Go with the cheaper one.

Rebooted the system? Anything going on in the background? (Security scanner?)

Open task manager and see how your CPU is being used. Is one of the cores (or all of them) peaking at 100%?

Do a test: create a new project, create a new sequence based on a test clip, see if it plays back smooth in it. If it doesn’t, try trashing Pr prefs.

Don’t include it. (I don’t know what your system, OS and RAID controller/ chip/ software is/are but the answer is still right. :))

P.S. Nice pic Rob!!! Good to have happy faces on the forum… 🙂

[Rob Fourchalk] “Questions: If I’m going to raid 0 my 2nd 3rd and 4th drives together, do they all need to have the same capacity (eg all need to be 1tb drives or all need to be 2tb drives)?”

Technically no; in reality yes. The portion of the drive used for RAID has to be the same – the excess capacity (if any) can be used elsewhere in theory but in reality it rarely happens or makes sense.

[Rob Fourchalk] “Next question: is it ok to mix with different hard drive brands together (eg Hitachi 0S02861) with my stocked hard drives?”

It’s being done w/o problems (I have yet to hear of any) but rarely recommended: you may run into problems in some rare cases.

    [Alex Geroulaitis] “I’d recommend getting a self-contained RAID with a FW800 interface like Stardom SohoRAIDs; G-RAIDs, G-Speed Q.”

Some of these also come with an eSATA port; adding an ExpressCard/34 eSATA port to your MBP will increase the transfer speed.

Generally OS X (along with Linux and Windows) wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) allow you to RAID separate portable drives into a single volume – for a good reason. Disconnect one drive and the whole volume may be toast.

    I’d recommend getting a self-contained RAID with a FW800 interface like Stardom SohoRAIDs; G-RAIDs, G-Speed Q.

3rd party utilities only see the whole array, not individual drives.

Top tier controllers have decent RAID management and monitoring utilities though.
