It’s in a different menu in FCP7 – go to File > Send to… Compressor.

Hi Ken,
I would recommend Clipfinder 2.2 for your conversions (2.2 is the free version which will work fine for you). It offers a lot more flexibility than FCP.
https://www.daun.ch/hamingja/In short, you import your R3D files then go File > Render… and create the setting you wish to use for your clips (i.e. ProRes HQ, 1920×1080 etc), then render everything out.
Clipfider is very similar to RedRushes in what it allows you to do, but is a lot more user friendly and has a few extra features.

It’s the difference between bits and bytes. 50 mbits = 6.2 mbytes (8 bits in a byte). FCP displays the megabytes/second.

Hi Lisa,
Personally I would pick one shot (probably the wide shot, let’s call it Camera 1) as a ‘master’ and merge the 9 audio tracks with it. You will be left with Camera 1 video + 9 audio tracks (+ any audio already attached to the Camera 1 file). Try to avoid nesting.
You can then edit the 4 different angles as a multiclip using all of the audio from Camera 1. Leave the fine tuning of any sound editing until the end.
This would be my preferred approach but pulling this off smoothly is dependent on the 4 video angles all being shot as single takes. If there are pauses in the video but no pauses in audio then this will take some extra effort. Let me know if this is the case and I’ll describe my method.

Hi Craig,
Have you tried Compressor Repair from Digital Rebellion? It’s free. From time to time Compressor trips over itself but I’ve always found a combination of running Compressor Repair followed by re-configuring the Quick Cluster then a restart will fix any problems I’m having.

Hi Matt,
Are you certain you’re archiving to a RAID 0? For added protection I would recommend RAID 1 if it’s an option. It means the two (or more) drives making up the RAID ‘mirror’ each other, so if one fails you still have the other as a backup – RAID 0 doesn’t give you that protection.
Just a thought.

Hi Sam,
In the Browser right click your clip’s properties under the Alpha column and change it from None/Ignore to any other the other options (usually Black) – see below. The clip’s alpha properties will then translate to your sequence.

Press CMD+0 to open Sequence Settings.
1. Under the tab, ‘General’ what does it say below QuickTime Video Settings?
2. Under the tab labeled ‘Render Control’ are the first two drop-down lists set to 100%? They should be, but what you’re describing sounds as though one of them may be set to 50%.

I always use PNG+ for graphics unless it’s practical to create a ProRes 4444+ video to use as the graphic (e.g. a lower third with some kind of animation in and out).
As far as I know most people do the same.
Regarding your stuttering playback, are you rendering as XDCAM or ProRes?
