If it’s an h.264 final render you might have better luck doing this in After Effects, as FCP has trouble with h.264 files

Ah okay; so all you have is your final rendered video; which is 4×3 letterboxed?
In that case; if you really want it to play fullscreen on YouTube, I’d create like a 1280×720 or 960×540 square pixel sequence in FCP; drag your letterboxed final file into that sequence, do NOT match sequence settings to clip settings; then manually scale up your video so that it fills the window and eliminates the black bars
Not ideal, and you’ll lose some quality of course.

Or better yet; create a new sequence, then drag any of your source clips from the browser into that new sequence; accept the change (match the clip settings to the sequence settings)–then delete that clip, THEN copy/paste your clips from your problem sequence…

It’s been awhile since I had to deal with this—what happens if you create a brand new empty sequence with the proper anamorphic setting: and then copy/paste everything in your current sequence to that one?
I’m sure someone around here could offer a more graceful explanation

Is the “Anamorphic” box checked on that sequence?
In other words, in FCP, are you getting any letterboxing in your canvas? Or are you seeing a 16×9 image in your canvas?

What are your sequence settings; and your export settings?

Certainly not fool proof but the best option for our current workflow

We use these a ton at work; I’ve got 3 hooked up via a SATA card to my Mac Pro–swap drives out constantly, etc. Rarely have issues.
