eSata caddy and FCP
Does anyone use external sata drives in a caddy to edit onto in FCP?
I am gathering a lot of footage and want a cheapish way of adding hard drives as and when i need more space.
A caddy seems like quite a good idea as i can get a thunderbolt version for my MBP and then a FW800 for my older iMac and can upgrade the connection as and when.
Most of the time i use a G Raid to store rushes, FCP Project online, H264 originals on a back up drive. My back up drive is filling up so time to move on – this is the sort of caddy i mean:

We use these a ton at work; I’ve got 3 hooked up via a SATA card to my Mac Pro–swap drives out constantly, etc. Rarely have issues.

Thanks for the replyDo you use the drives as they come or do you put them in individual housings and hook them up that way?
I’m just a bit worried that if they are designed to be used internally and i use them a lot just in an external caddy they might get bashed around a bit.Cheers

We buy Western Digital 1TB Black drives and use them as-is; we store them in cases much like these: https://www.amazon.com/IO-Crest-2-5-Inch-Storage-SY-ACC25014/dp/B003OBZQRO/ref=pd_sim_e_4
Certainly not fool proof but the best option for our current workflow
