Hey Michael, I have used smoke, I worked with a demo for about 8 months. It has some cool features, but a very cumbersome and archaic workflow. It was Smoke for Mac, since we are still reliant on ProRes 444 and 422. Smoke for Mac does not have Batch, the real compositing engine for Flame and Smoke Advanced. I have met and talked with lots of Autodesk Pros, and they try to tell me what action can do, but I hate Action as a final compositor. Its horrible. When you have Batch, you don’t have to use Action for much more than brining in Clips etc, but in Smoke for Mac that is your compositor and Its not up to todays pro level. As for the color warper??? Come on… Color Warper is to DaVinci Resolve as MS PAINT is to Photoshop. So yeah, I have tried Smoke, and if I was doing a lot of Online Editing it might be ok, but for grading its not good enough. Also whats up with the Price?? They always claim you can get 40% more work done?? But its 140x more expensive, so should they say you can get 1400% more work done? Autodesk is a still a costly investment.
This is not really an answer to your question (I’ll leave that to much smarter people), but have you tried Smoke? It sounds like it may be a better tool for this kind of project.

January 5, 2012 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Why Every Company Needs to be More Like IBM and Less Like AppleHaving close friends who have worked at IBM over the years, all they could say was that IBM is structural and socially identical to the armed services. There is a very rigid chain of command and if you don’t know your place you will end up in the BRIG. It works, look how dominant our armed services are.
Anyway, that is what APPLE and GOOGLE for that matter where trying to change. My friend said if you aren’t willing to say “YES SIR,” “NO SIR” and be, as he quoted, “AN OLD SONNA A B#TCH” IBM isn’t the place for you.
For what its worth, its just a different kind of tech company, IMHO totally different than APPLE, GOOGLE and the rest of the consumer based tech companies. IBM is more like GE than Apple.

Jordan disagrees. “You can ride a bike and a motorcycle, and while both have handle bars and a seat, the motorcycle has a lot more power,” he says. “The same here. The new Final Cut may look similar, but it blows the doors off iMovie.”
but it blows the doors off iMovie!!! I love that line. Oh man is we all in trouble.

Sure, let me figure out the best way to do that.. Also, I have tested the media in Toast Pro 11 and it seems to work fine there.

I have been testing for almost 4 days, doing every little trick to try and get the BLU-RAY to build. Still get that error. It seems that ENCORE just doesn’t work for mac.

April 25, 2011 at 4:52 pm in reply to: How much money is FInal Cut Pro X really going to cost?I know you guys think I’m trolling, but I’m not, this is an honest observation, we have 5 FCP suites, 1 MC 5 and Every piece of Kona Hardware you can think of, ProLCD’s Plasmas, etc.. I am making a calculated review of this product and its impact on industry people. And every gets so defensive like Apple is their only child or something.
So how about this, I will eat that Cow Poop if Final Cut Studio is still alive come June.

This is 100% for real, not a joke. Apple has gotten rid of all Pens, Pencils and Paper on the Apple Campus at One Infinite loop. All people on the campus have to use a Handwriting App, on iPad or an iPhone, to take notes and all communication has to be with an iPad or an iPhone. Any use of Paper, Pens or Pencils will be considered a violation of their LAWS AND RULES OF CONDUCT FOR ALL APPLE EMPLOYEES and will be grounds for instant termination. Apple always sees so far into the future.
