Have you seen the latest?
Posted by Richard Herd on April 18, 2011 at 8:42 pmIt’s a screw press. No kidding. It allows writers to publish their works to many many people. It also uses moveable type made from lead and also paper made from pulp.

April 18, 2011 at 8:58 pmThat’s a ridiculous idea: we have a fortune invested in a bunch of scribes illuminating our manuscripts by hand, and that’s what our high end patrons expect from us. You make these “presses” available for a low price and anybody could write, well ANYTHING on them, at a ridiculously low margin. Terrible writing will flood the market. We don’t do low-end work, so this “press” idea has soured us on Mr. Gutenberg’s entire approach to graphic design. We are going to, if anything, go back to cuneiform, a standard set in stone.

April 19, 2011 at 3:34 amThis is 100% for real, not a joke. Apple has gotten rid of all Pens, Pencils and Paper on the Apple Campus at One Infinite loop. All people on the campus have to use a Handwriting App, on iPad or an iPhone, to take notes and all communication has to be with an iPad or an iPhone. Any use of Paper, Pens or Pencils will be considered a violation of their LAWS AND RULES OF CONDUCT FOR ALL APPLE EMPLOYEES and will be grounds for instant termination. Apple always sees so far into the future.

April 19, 2011 at 4:38 pmAdjusted for today’s $USD, the printing press in 1600 costs $250,000, the iPhone3GS: $49.
