Blue itself is not a plug-in at this time. Red4 should be fine. Even teh AvidFX based on Red4 is out as well, and working just great.

Blue’s requirements are far different from Red. Make sure your hardware is capable.

October 31, 2006 at 3:50 am in reply to: change levels of multiple audio clips in a bin

I don’t know if it can be done in a bin, but it sure can be done in the timeline pretty easily. Move the position over the first clip in the timeline, and then open the Audio Mixer. Adjust as you like, and then use the fast menu and choose to “Set Level On Track – Global”.

    Hope that helps a little.

Well I don’t know if it is the best way, but it works.

When you have selected Import, Choose Options, and then under the Alpha section, choose Invert Existing.

  • Hi Neil,

You can use DVD-R, standard 4.7 GB discs to submit to replication with CSS and Macrovision. The trick to this is to create DDP images on the hard drive, and then copy those images to pure UDF DVD-R media. If you do that, and the replication facility is familiar with the technique, no DLTs are needed, and you will accomplish exactly what a DLT accomplishes.

The way this works is this:

You write your DVD-9 project to DDP 2.0 image files. I don’t think Encore DVD has this feature, but DVD Studio Pro does. DVDAfterEdit does as well. Both are Mac though. But anything that writes DDP images to the hard drive can be used. ImageCopy from the Eclipse suite does this too. Gear does it, but it doesn’t do a 2054 sector size, so it’s a moot point I guess. But you get the idea. DDP images on Disc is something Eclipse 4 can handle without a problem.

The command 8 is not an input / output device. It’s just a control surface. So you are correct, you need an MBOX or MBOX2.

Many items you buy wil give you ProTools LE. The DVToolkit also comes with ProTools LE, but again, it assumes you have an input / output box to connect it to.

I would ditch the 9800, and use an nVidia 6800, or an FX1300. I use the FX1300, and no problem what so ever.

June 12, 2006 at 12:42 am in reply to: Pentium or AMD???

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard someone decide they want an AMD, and then a few weeks later, complain that things are not running well at all. It’s not that the AMD is a bad CPU. It’s that Avid doesn’t optimize for it. They don’t appear to test on it at all.

If you are not going to ever use a Mojo, then I’d say a good Pentium should do it, if you stay close to the specs. Use the correct video card, use the correct driver, etc etc. If you do plan on a Mojo, the easiest thing to do is to simply buy an approved machine from HP.

If you want to build your own, then understand the specs as much as possible. Down to the PCI BUS and Slot configuration, else you will run into problems.

  • Could you give us more information regarding how you work in After Effects?

What is the source resolution of the AE comp?

When you go to Make Movie, what choices are you selecting in the following areas:

    1. Render Settings
    2. Output Module

    Thanks,
