    Thanks Cassius,

that works for the position but then if you adjust the scale it doesn’t follow.

Ya unfortunately that seems to be the only way to work. I try to avoid supermassive precomps but I guess they their moments. and this is one of them.

I wanted to move the polygons with the null, but Someone on the C4d Cafe gave me the answer. You just place a cluster object inside the mesh, use a vertex map for the selected vertices, load that map into the cluster object, and then designate the null as the cluster objects target… in case anyone else is wondering.

    Thanks though.

Okay So I brought my laptop with me to the studio so I could transfer footage right after the shoot. I was just playing with after effects afterward and the ram preview worked. Checked multi-processing and it was on. So I’m not sure what that was about. Back in my apartment it still works. I connected my monitor while it was ram previewing and it still works. So all in all it’s looking good. However I have since closed after effects so who knows if it will be fine when I reopen it. I think after effects might be on drugs.

Just tried a simple solid layer animation. no luck. And Todd I don’t think it has to do with the user since I am the only user on the computer. Granted when I checked the security details for after effects, It listed the priveleges for me, administrator and then one other one that was just a technical name for me. each of these users had full access. and in the task manager under users it only lists me as a user. So I don’t think that would be the problem.

Okay now I can’t ram preview with even just one display. Tried restarting the machine but to no avail. For some reason After effects isn’t able to connect to the background processes. I don’t know what’s causing this, but would really like to fix it. I have after effects set to run as admin. I have it set as an exception of avg. I tried turning off avg. I have tried all sorts of combinations of allocated ram and cores. I’ve cleared out the caches and purged the memory. After effects is just being stubborn.

Ya I’m thinking about getting the t420 for it’s larger screen and Nvidia graphics card. It isn’t any special high-end Nvidia, but it should do the job. I used to run particular systems, form, and c4d scenes on a simple intel integrated with a pentium dual core. so the e420 might be not be the best idea, but the t420 should work fine. If not I could consider springing for the w520. that would certainly do the trick and would still be cheaper than a Macbook.

Hey Thanks for the advice. Both of these machines can be ordered with up to 8 gigs of ram so I guess whichever one I choose (if one of the 2 previously stated) I will max out the ram. What do you think about the screen res though? The video said that getting at least 1280 by 800 is very important. do you think it is important enough that it should alter my decision though? I certainly don’t want to put up with my work space getting cut off the screen.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks! I finally got around to watching his tutorials and they’ve been a great help to me.
