And just a reminder, since some folks (like myself) missed this for a while, there is an “export to MXF” feature in the Canon utility, that strips out the folder structure, and allows you to simply export all the clips directly to a folder of your choosing. You can also rename the files as you output, and give them a custom sequential name. It’s been a great feature for me, accelerating my workflow significantly. I believe the downside may be if you have in camera metadata you are adding at shoot time, that you may lose it. So my thoughts would be to ‘backup’ the card, and then export to MXF. During a long shoot, I usually just copy as stated by Todd and then use the “export” feature when I am back at the workstation.

I have to say, that given my own experience, and that of a lot of folks on this board, that my assumption is that Adobe is having a bit more issues with Mac OS<>Pr interaction, vs. Windows 7 64 bit. It just seems to be more problematic. That said, I’ve moved over to Windows, and while there is a lot to like about the Mac OS (I own a Mac Pro fully configured and used to run FCP and Pr on it in the past), I’ve really liked having a wide variety of laptops and desktops to choose from. While I do not do Hollywood grade work, or work in a large team, I’m happy with the choice. Your workflow and wider team of collaborators might force the issue though, one way or the other.

No it appears that using Alt allows you to grab all tracks above and below on the timeline moving to the right. I don’t see anything that allows you to work from the left.

Ouch, those RR follow focus aren’t cheap either! Maybe they’ll have an adapter. I can’t see replacing my 7D, or 105 with it (I have done some great paying gigs with Infrared on the 105). But I can see selling the 305, but I do live ENG zoom…

I’ve been sort of thinking the same thing. MXF format with interchangeable lenses and super DOF, all with the same setups as the XF305 and 105. It’s hard not to just go buy one! One thing I’ve liked about my 105 that the 305 doesn’t have, is a 3.5′ mic jack. Occassionally I like to just plug in my VideoPro from my 7D to the 105, and I have to carry a larger mic for the 305. I understand they left that out of the C300.

Waiting to see the reviews from independents. If it shot mxf on cf like my 7d and 305 I would instantly buy it, but going to 4:2:0 from 4:2:2 seems odd. Having to buy all new cards. I just can’t see spending twice this for those features on the c300, for my use, that is. I’m sure the 300 is a fabulous camera though. I can see buying one at some point. If it really is as good as it appears i might sell the xf305, though i love shooting with it.

Just got the crash bug on exit tonight, oddly enough after rendering with the Video to Youtube extension in play. Without it, it rendered fine, except 480p widescreen exhibeted the green line on the right bug. When I rendered it via the Video to Youtube extension, it rendered correctly, then Vegas crashed….

Yes, when it comes to features, Vegas rocks. John is right on the money. It’s also the easiest to use, and I have used FCP and Adobe. But the stability on my machines (and I am now on my third Windows 7 box that I’ve used Vegas on) is just not there. To repeat, I’ve spent countless hours trying to stabilize this platform and still get far too many “Vegas stopped working”. I have been through multiple video cards, and about every workaround in the book. What’s interesting, is that after all that, I’ve now used Premiere for about 3 months, on this same machine, only had one crash, and that was a known bug that was fixed in the following update. Since then, rock solid. That alone is why I’m heading into the endgame. I will not pay for the upgrade to 12. It’s over.
The sad thing here is that I have been enthusiastic about this product for all the right reasons. If it did not have stability issues, I’d be staying and paying. Great features, forums like this, but time is money. Adobe is not easy. Multicam is harder. Speaking of money, my Youtube upload for a client is done. Later…

As I wrap up this last project on Vegas, a few final thoughts for any of you trying to troubleshoot stuff.
- Crashes certainly seem related to New Blue, as well as even some Pro Titler
- I was able to complete some of the more complex, if you call them that, I wouldn’t, titling graphics by moving to my laptop, and using a fresh timeline to create it. This is also the latest build of Vegas 11. No crashes on that machine for that simple task. So if I were trying to get through graphics additions, you might try a new project, new timeline, render it to something like MXF and then drop it into your crashing timeline. Works for me.
The crashes all started after I beginning to add graphics, like titles, (after all minor editing was done).

Well, after 3 hours of work, the crashes started in earnest again. My only clue was that not long after I started using Pro Titler, things started going south. Corrupted my current version of the edit, took me back 45 minutes.
That’s the last straw for me. I’m going to get this finished and freeze all future editing on it.
Thanks for all your help folks. Best of luck. Nothing personal, but I can’t afford this kind of instability.
