my wife, who is not easily impressed with any advertising, thought it was a brilliant ad, that tackled a very real issue that women face. That many women don’t feel good about themselves and carry a much lower self esteem than men do. Or that other women see themselves as. Older women especially face that problem.
I was astonished and very impressed with the ad. It was very gutsy approach to getting their name spun in a very positive way. For those that hated the ad on FB, all I can say is, the best advertising is edgy, and will piss some people off yet get huge attention. The 1984 Apple ad still can be remembered by anyone that has ever seen it by just saying, “1984 Apple Ad” Regardless of what you think of Apple, that is power.

Just received my Rycote Invision today. Wow. This is one well engineered adapter. I’m setting it up on a 5DMkiii tonight for a shoot tomorrow. It has an offset ability (to the right or left) that keeps the cord from being in your eye, and holds an AT897 with no problem at a distance that keeps it out of the 18mm edge. I’m sold. Plug the xlr into the 5D or into a field mixer with no problem. A winner.

The project settings, in all software, were always set to HD – 1080 – 50i – 1920×1080 – 25.000 fps – Unscaled – Progressive. However, I believe the results would be the same if shot flat at 23.976FPS, with American NTSC settings.
Isn’t that setup as i? I have had to specificly change the default project settings in Vegas from interlaced to progressive. Or am I missing something?

Craig, are you shooting interlaced or just setting your project that way? And why not use a color swatch for this or show dynamic range? While i love Pr i am not clear your test is valid yet. I don’t use interlaced projects for progressive footage. or am i missing something?

No.the camera is the same. If you see a distinctly softer look, it’s the lenses.you may need them repaired by mfg.
Reviews on some canon zooms claim they can be sharper than primes (!). Some might be softer, i.e. cheaper ones.
If you are using high end canon zooms, and the image is soft, send it in for recalbrating (repair).

Maybe, but the 7d video does not hold up well. I just moved to 5d mkiii and i no longer shoot with the 7d.
The zooms did seem softer, in general though.

Owen, you might be better off just upgrading to 6.0. I don’t have any issues using MKiii footage in CS6. I’ll try it with 5.5 when I get a chance.

I had used Excel for a few years, and yes, it’s not the best but it’s not bad. I too had usually stuck the receipts in envelopes until I could enter them in Excel. Also, there are some great apps on iPhone (and I’m sure Android too), that allow you to track car mileage and export to excel (Car Bug), and to photograph reciepts and store the images rather than the reciepts (that’s what businesses are allowed to do now).
Last year, due to some reasons, I had to learn Quicken, and yes, the home/business version will allow you to do both personal and small business. I tracked 3 businesses on it last year. Worse feature was it’s invoicing. Best was that, yes, with a bit of diligence, all was easy this month to give totals to my tax prep person
Likely, as my business grows, which it is, I’ll switch to Quickbooks.
It does force you to be more structured, whether you like it or not. I believe most of us need that. It also does a great job of downloading multiple accounts. I never hand enter any banking data any more, and 90% of my invoices, including PayPal can be imported. All I do is catagorize.
But Excel can do the job just fine, and it lets you customize it to your way of working.
As to other packages, I worry that if they go under, I’ll be left high and dry. But it’s usually only one year at a time.

What kind of batteries are you using? I’ve found that the new Lithium long lifes sometime cannot be used in some devices, in that they trigger some kind of shutdown of the electronics (as if the batteries are low) likely because the voltage is above the specs that some component expects, and the unit may treat it as if it’s protecting itself from electrical overload. (that’s my best guess). So make sure you are using *standard* batteries, before assuming the unit is defective.
