I’ll give it a try. I just hooked up my old BM Video recorder which uses USB and it works fine. So it’s something with the Intensity (maybe the settings), TB and the Shuttle Software. My USB version is set to 720p and is set to “remove fields”. But the problem on the Intensity doesn’t look like a field removal problem, does it to you ?
I am not using anything more than a standard DVD player. A Yamaha DV-S5650. So no timecode other than what’s native coming out of the DVD player.
Is there anyone out there using the Intensity with Thunderbolt on a standard DVD player output into a Mac and getting acceptable recording? If so, what settings are you using?

On windows or mac? If Mac, try disk warrior.

Thanks. Re-Downloading it is what I suspected. And yes, my machine is running 10.8.5 so the installer won’t even start after clicking on it. Error message says that I’m running a newer version of the OS and it just won’t go forward. I don’t even get the option of deciding to install it on a separate disk. I wasn’t aware that Apple sort of forced you forward once you have made the upgrade.
I’m sort of surprised that Apple’s Disk Utility doesn’t have a ‘bootable’ disk capability when formatting, like Windows does. Or did I miss it? Given the answers I’ve seen in Google there does not appear that it possible.

Thanks Dave. I have a 32GB USB stick, and have partitioned it into two 16GB partitions, one partition isMac Journaled. Now I want to install a basic bootable OS onto it, and then load DW. I have a copy of Snow Leopard, but it won’t let me install onto it for some reason. I can bring up the SL install, but it won’t launch, even though I’m not installing onto the local physical drive. Is there something I’m missing here? The current OS 10.8.5 I don’t have the boot disk for because I down loaded it from the Apple Store, and I believe it’s now gone (meaning installed). I think it cleans itself up afterwards.
Should I just download Mavericks and use the install process on it?
It all may be moot soon. Alsoft sends out a bootable version of DW and it likely will be here next week. But I would like to get this done anyway.

Agree with video card upgrade..and get your machine to 16gbs ram quick.

Good news. I guess if you have the paying work in 4k footage or fx it could pay back that $14k investment quickly in rendering time turnaround. Will be interesting to see comparisons with Windows HP workstations maxxed out. TB 2 may make it worth it? But Comparisons are all, “Apple to Apple” 😉

Chad, can you hold off for six months? IMHO, I think it would become much clearer, and I wouldn’t sell off your MacPro just yet. Adobe hasn’t yet benchmarked the new ATI cards, likely are still working on performance improvements and some folks on MacWorld that did some preliminary tests did not show more than an 8% performance increase in the new machines over a top of the line iMac. I think holding tight if you can might prove to be worth it, as the bugs get worked out of the system by all the 3rd party folks. How old is your MacPro? Maybe you can simply buy late model and move all your stuff to it?

Very much like you except for kona needs. I don’t know how you will get around it, but perhaps they will bring something new out at NAB. I’ve recently bought an imac 27″. 2gb nvidea, 16Gb RAM. Running parrallels for Windows. I too have FCP projects, but have moved to Pr cloud. It seems as if the FCP legacy has us locked into Apple, but frankly i like the mac os and feel it’s worth the price. There are lots of converter options for thunderbolt, and for PCIe to USB 3.0. Check out OWC.

Heidi, the xf100 is not great at macro. If you really need macro, you are going to have to look at something else. The xf100 is really a ‘normal’ video camera, no interchangeable lenses, but you can buy lens adapters for it. You might pick up a screw on macro adapter that would work. But again, check it’s specs on the canon site.
