I am still using FCP7 and will continue to use it as long as it remains viable. I am not interested in FCP X. I purchased Avid MC 5.5 via the crossgrade promotion and will upgrade to v6 soon. I will eventually transition to using Avid MC for all future projects. MC will allow me to easily transition to Windows-based PC hardware if Apple should discontinue its pro hardware.

I am also annoyed at how a shallow depth of field in EVERY SHOT is now considered the latest badge of cinematic street cred in amateur circles. When was the last time you saw a major feature that had nothing but shot after shot with a shallow depth of field? Does that mean Citizen Kane isn’t truly “cinematic” because it has shots with extremely deep depth of field?

Is the footage 30p, or interlaced?

The irony is that for years, Apple sold software that could not take full advantage of its hardware. If this rumor comes to pass, Apple will now lack the hardware to take full advantage of its software.

DCVPRO HD is not a full-raster HD format. It squeezes the image and records a 4:3 960×720 image with anamorphic pixels for 720p (or 1280×1080 for 1080i/p), then stretches the image back out to a 16:9 ratio on playback. This is done to reduce the bandwidth necessary to record the signal.
Other formats such as XDCAM EX or AVC-Intra record a full-raster 1280×720 or 1920×1080 square pixel image.

You are correct. This is also true for DVD workflows. At a given bitrate, a lower frame rate will allow better quality per frame.

You should investigate Sonic Foundry’s MediaSite product. It is designed to capture and deliver video with PowerPoint presentations in two separate widows via a web browser. Accordent makes a similar product. They can both be used for live streaming or on-demand delivery.
