Trouble is, the law governing use of unpaid interns is clear: Unpaid interns can’t perform work that is of any benefit to the company, which clearly was not the case with the employer in the want ad.
Labor law also requires that unpaid interns receive school credit for their internships, and even then they can’t do work that normally would be performed by a paid worker. Answering phones, making copies, running errands or any of a thousand other tasks normally performed by paid workers is not permitted.
And I love how so many of those Craigslist and Mandy postings want experience across departments, a demo reel, often ownership of the camera or edit system, and more, and still expect to offer nothing in return.
I’ve informally traded work on people’s efforts for work on mine. I will still do that today if I like both the person and the project, and I know it’s going to be a mutual thing at some point. That, I have no trouble with.
Expecting people to work for nothing, and being incredibly demanding of them in the same breath, has become a trend in this business. A sick, destructive trend.
Just once I’d love to see a concerted effort by people to accept these no-pay gigs and then not show up for the production, just to sandbag the schmucks driving it. Problem is, there’s so many starry-eyed youngsters out there who will climb over each others’ remains to work for nothing that it will likely never happen.

As Timothy has mentioned, become as well-rounded as possible.
I had no defined minor, though I was not far from one in Geography. Other subjects/interests involved Art History and Classics. Those weren’t all, by any means.
One of the best profs I had was in East Asian Art History, and he was a former jazz musician. Another was a Japanese History prof who thought (and taught) largely, though not exclusively, in economic terms.
Breadth and depth are both important. Find things you are passionate about and follow them. The world we live in is a richly textured place, and there will certainly be bits of it that resonate strongly for you.
And a little music knowledge never hurts an editor. Even if you don’t do formal coursework, take up – and develop some facility with – an instrument, especially in conjunction with other people playing at the same time.

As I – and others – have already told you, if you start with a higher quality file, and use somewhat more forgiving settings, you’ll end up with higher quality output. Your bitrate settings are simply too low for decent quality. I think at this point it’s a management problem – as in, your management. From your description, they could use a bit of education on quality.

The really expensive way would involve a high-quality scan converter recording to a digital tape or DDR, then using that file. Something tells me you’re not eager to do that.

Have you looked at them with your WFM turned on (in the “reference monitor” ganged to the timeline) to determine that your black areas are indeed at video black?

[Fernando Mol] “I had problems with AVI files generated from Camtasia. I captured them on the fly and saved as AVI.
The files had a fluid playback in Media Player, but when imported to Premiere or After Effects the frames were jumping or artifacts showed. I couldn’t find a fix.
It’s possible that Camtasia AVI files had a buggy codec, or maybe some settings should be tweak before you capture them.”
Likewise. I am not really a fan of Camtasia. It’s useful enough for what it does – sort of. The real problem is, better solutions cost more.

Why are you capturing 24 fps to begin with? Especially to go to 15 fps in your Flash encode?
There’s simply no reason to do 24 fps for something like this, first off.
I do regular 720 x 480 DV, encode it at 320 x 240/350K in AME, and it works just fine, with real people on camera. To tell me a screencap won’t work strains credulity. Then again, 13K is barely enough for tolerable audio, let alone video. Why this datarate? How are you delivering?
Also, I have seen strange things from Camtasia captures when some types of overlay are happening.

What sort of Camtasia output are you editing and Flash encoding? File format? Bitrate? Project settings? Encode settings?
If you don’t start with good material you won’t end up with it.
And your original post title has nothing to do with Premiere, it has to do with Adobe Media Encoder.
