    Here’s the problem:

I have some indoor scenes, and green-screen scenes, in my video. They look fine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 preview, and in .avi format as well. As soon as I transfer them to DVD, all dark areas, especially where the dominating color is black, appear as gray. I don’t mind some quality loss, but this is very annoying. In all my outdoor scenes, on the other hand, as well as in the photographs that pop up in the video now and then, black is good deep black. Why?

Have you looked at them with your WFM turned on (in the “reference monitor” ganged to the timeline) to determine that your black areas are indeed at video black?

In addition to what Alan said, your computer monitors might not be correct as far as brightness and contrast is concerned. Your TV might not be correct either. I’d calibrate both as close as possible to get the best results.

As for viewing on other’s TVs, well, it’s the sort of thing where you just have to hope their TVs and monitors are close to correct. Unfortunately….
