Thanks for the suggestion: it worked, there’s updates all the way up to 11.0.4, being that 11.0.3 was enough to get AE CS6 back into working within Mavericks.

Thank you for the reply. The Lossless was not the issue (I had used Lossless many times before, too), but rather JPEGS that are larger than 4000 pixels… Always a student, one is. Thanks!!!

OK, so I searched the Cow and found people with the same issue, years ago, and the solution for them (and for me) was:
” Some people have suggested changing the gamma correction in the playback control from Accurate to Approximate, which makes it better while the video is playing but once the cursor stops moving the video goes back to being very dark. ”

While I have never had to do this, I am fine with accepting this solution, since, as one user said, ” Accurate” color playback has never been accurate anyway.

Fantastically simple answer, thank you.
This confirms what I already had researched and learned, but these clients who have been showing up lately brought the issue back into discussion for me.

What I had learned was that if the DVD or BluRay player are connected to a display/monitor/TV via HDMI, that’s when they can see if or not the display can support true 24p. But two things have proved this not quite the case:

1) my Phillips DVD player, probably 3-4 years old, does this proper pulldown removal, when connected via HDMI, but ALSO even when connected via RCA (component, really). So the HDMI is not essencial for the player to detect progressive scan on the display, it seems.

2) One of such clients complained of the aforementioned lagging/stuttering when playing the DVD (Compressor authored… a-ha!) on a Playstation (3, I think) using HDMI…! The PS console is probably 3-4 years old, he says.

Question: will BitViceSD encode with IVT?

Because I in fact purchased BitVice a few years ago, but not always getting the best results from it and thus have been using Compressor.
BitVice in fact gives me the option to encode at 30 fps, 29,97…, 24, 23,976.., 29,97 w/ pulldown, 30 w/ pulldown, etc… What to make of all these options? When coming from 24p, seems like the only one to really use is 29,97 w/ pulldown, wouldn’t you say?

Thanks for the help on such short notice. Now I have successfully exported the video, although the method you indicated was not the solution… I had seen the same solution, which another cow user had recomended as well, and it seemed very plausible, except for the fact that the first time I imported the AIF files from Cubase , while FCP was still under the 29.97 fps Easy Setup reign, everything worked fine: that was how I showed the final edit and mix to the client. The sequence played (and still plays!) fine, but upon export, it is out of synch, and upon new importing of audio and re-synching in the sequence, also it is out of synch. This happened no matter if Easy Setup was 23.98 or 29.97, unfortunatelly.

I also had tried not nesting sequences for the final master, which didn’t solve the issue either. I thought it would.

What ended up being the solution, which I cannot explain why, was to plug the Cubase audio files into a duplicate sequence of the original cut, no nesting (just in case) and to re-sync the 3 audio streams (voice, effects and music): each was off by +5 or -9 frames (!!!). Once I did this, everything stayed in synch and I was able to export using Current Settings, and form there make a DVD and a h264 QT.

I really do not know what happened, because it seems like the files from Cubase lost frames/sync AFTER they had been imported and successfully synched up. But at least it wasn’t an issue of frame-rates, because there was no sycnh drift.

If anyone has any idea what might have gone on (coudl happen again, I am sure), feedback is much welcome!

I don’t think it solved, because I can’t seem to color any objects… Below is an image of how my palettes are now. Have any clue?
This happens whenever I open a PSD file in BW which I Live Trace (B&W).

Also, while we are at it, how can I get more detail when tracing a bitmap image? I have fiddled with all teh Live Trace settings, but none seem to give me more detail… does my original image have to be super hirez? Mine is 2000×2000, roughly.

Many thanks for the ideas, folks. I will probably end up using the “fake it” approach… I shot straight on and got a better result when softening a tad the focus and blowing out the whites a tad, but still nothing aesthetically pleasing, thus the “fake it” approach sounds best.
