“We know about the Cloud, but full purchase has not been mentioned that I can see.””
[walter biscardi] “with Creative Cloud there’s really no need for “Creative Suites” anymore.”
well that’s a bit wrong. I lack any desire for dream weaver or indesign Walter. Any price proposition that includes a dump truck of adobe software I am unlikely to ever use feels like sharp practise to me.
Adobe should not feel that they are in a position to hose any old software – that I have never used in my life – as a justification to jack up their new monthly bills to a point where they match my natural gas or electrical supply bill.
I get that adobe like money – and PPro is great – but there are fundamental limits to their behaviour.

“It doesnt recompute those preview files frame by frame like it used to.””
[Ryan Holmes] Yes you are right. You can use Preview files with Smart Render provided you’ve already built said preview files.that is the biggie though. The point is that Adobe are likely about to get a metric ton of people who need to know that a Pro Res/DNX timeline is going to go out native. If you edit narrative or factual in pro res, that it goes out without recalculation.
It appears to go in the order of six to one off the demo OSX 60″ encode.Being pessimistic: so that’s a thirty minute programme output, with timeline largely ready to go, as ProRes, all baked out in around say..
say twenty hyper-threaded minutes? on current good hardware?https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics

nope!
er, but the pro res workflow looks good, said the FCP7 guy….

yes exactly – I’m not looking for magic – I just want to know that when I pre-render a section in pro-res/dnx workflow – it’s in the bag for final output.

[Ryan Holmes] “I feel like this is mostly demo material.”
no that’s wrong really – it’s exactly what it looks like – it goes to the amount of work done in the render of the timeline prior to final export pass off. In personal experience there is a ton of clip to clip render passes on various parts to see whats what or incorporate AE renders. you want to know that those mini render hits are being taken into account.
Any timeline is a mix of pass through render portions. FCP7 was. The point is that PPro now respects the timeline pass through renders from ProRes and DNX?
Any clean timeline of Pro Res or DNxHd is now a direct pass through. there is no export hit.honestly – watch the demos – he takes, for instance, object selection on monitor clip object pixel nudging to task very exactly.
he’s really not a demo guy per se.https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics

[Ryan Holmes] “boxed copies of CS”
maybe stop saying boxed copies.
it confuses the issue. Forget physical media.
the issue is whether or not I can make any form of definitive purchase of software, where the software represents my livelihood.https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics
