I remember us talking about that a bit back – controlled brand deployment to third parties really does seem like a natural use case for rigging and publishing. same here tho, I’ve actually never seen motion in the wild over here.
the closest I’ve seen is the brand toolkit for Price Waterhouse Cooper, you get all their master files – I mucked around with all their mograph assets doing a job recently – but it was, of course, AE stuff with colour coded locked layers. I duly set about unlocking them… mwaa ha ha ha…

that’s.. kind of open to debate Ronny.

No point being too worried about the facial shadows, given its done now – maybe think about, thematically as they say, giving a pretty strong darker desaturated look at the top when he’s isolated – let it breakout to brighter building to the final shot where he’s surrounded by his compadres.
depends on how many shots are in the sequence to play with, but a darker moodier top opening up to the final shot with blue skies might give a kick. as in no vignette on the final, let the sky feel bright blue and the trees green – you could nearly white the whole thing out at the close and reverse the text so you have black “imagine that” at the base on a white plate, bring up the web address or corporate sponsor stuff for endplate.

I noticed that Larry Jordan made a point of saying, in a wee vid posted before NAB, that he swears by it.

find one job in LA after two years and the lot of you go bananas. Bill starts delivering multiple sermons, people are ripping their clothes off and speaking in tongues, “look to autumn, then the truth will be revealed…”
my good god. that was a funny thread. seriously. what happens if three jobs get advertised in six months?

there’s a ton of core creative software involved. you’d nearly think adobe actually have to back off.

[Craig Seeman] “The gamble is whether the decline is user base will be offset by the continued user base subscribing to all products with all upgrades.”
the implications for a shortfall in subscriber numbers should be potentially unnerving for about anyone.
adobe are preparing to hive off around 50% of current license holders to arrive at something like a steady state of 4 million subscriptions by 2015/16. that’s their own projection.
I’m not really sure they have calculated the true effect of hiving off that many “vestigial limbs”. I personally don’t think adobe fundamentally get the implications or the damage contained there. If CC starts to run out of steam and they miss that number by a decent margin… things are going to get potentially quite bad and confused for the company, the toolset and the remaining customers. Adobe will be quite far gone at that point.
Adobe always parcelled out the necessary upgrade components on a time chart. Look at the type tool in photoshop for god’s sake. It was ridiculous how long they held it as a non modal dialogue box.
But on this occasion you can’t escape the feeling that there was a kitchen sink applied to the last release – throwing in an entire lite version of cinema 4D into AE? that feels like the sink.what I don’t understand is the fear that they couldn’t carry on as before. most quadrants of the suite are fairly locked in. I half think its the broad failure of the web tools post flash? Even in the optimum scenario, they only return to 2011/12 profit levels nearly four years later.
I find I don’t understand what adobe were protecting or guarding themselves against by forcing a reduced subset of their customers to subscription.
the thing that kills me is that it has potentially killed PPro as a broadly understood replacement for FCP. which it probably has.
the only thing I can think is that it was fear of loss of control over web creation tools? given the scale of the loss implied there? That it was an attempt to force the web tools into visibility and relevance through a full suite lock-in?there’s this:
https://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/news/creative-software/adobe-vp-on-creative-cloud/
Sharma says that there will be more emphasis on brand-new, razor-focused applications – such as the Edge line – rather than adding more and more functionality (and, some would say, bloat) to mature products.
she is speaking to the focus of the company there. realistically – their only focus is trying to regain ground online – they are trying to leverage a subscription lock-in revenue source as the basis for this.
and then there is this rather key quote.
“Star-gazing” further, Sharma made reference to ‘true cloud’ versions of its software – where desktop or tablet apps would tap into Adobe’s servers –the one thing I do not understand is how no one is acknowledging that adobe are now baldly saying that they want to remove the functionality of desktop software. their secondary core goal is to move to true software as a service.
the degree to which adobe have been casually lying about this beggars the mind – only insofar as they trip themselves (mike chambers) up in the lie they are telling so often.
adobe are a very confused company right now, with pretty weird goals. If you think they are not already coding SAAS software components – you are kidding yourself.
the question to the customer is whether the company/board ramming the foot to the pedal on this course can broadly sustain or protect the software entrusted to them.
Isn’t this starting to feel just a little crazy?

June 22, 2013 at 12:38 am in reply to: Would like an objective comparison of Adobe Premiere CC and Avid Media Composer 7[David Cherniack] “that’s an inefficient way of working that’s out of date with CC.”
maybe – and forking this a bit to a rant – but the idea that broad editing standard operation is going to involve CPU hammering of non optimised avchd codecs seems a bit off beam.
maybe better look at it like a political party slightly at the fringe that needed to produce a compelling pamphlet for its platform? A timeline to end all timelines? that puts an end to the stupidity of intermediate codecs? that’s a really really good political platform for a party out of power.
still tho, you could argue that once that party got a living sniff of the centre electoral editing voter mass, due to actually getting the editor together – they pretty immediately struck the avid mxf deal, and fully optimised the pro res pipeline.
PPro is getting to be pretty class, and is by a margin easily the most interesting horse out there right now. They’re piping LUT’s back into the timeline and anywhere is having a seismic impact in London. The crude observation would be that Adobe are dumping valley sized resources into premiere like it is going out of style.
in scale terms – all they need to do now is throw a security bone to the bees?
You would nearly think that Adobe has forgotten that they have classically been pollinated by bees -as it were.
Adobe never struck IBM deals.Adobe has classically relied upon the deep sub structure of, say, a natural creative hive of practitioners. It’s highly consensual, there are six to ten million of us, and we have long standing emotional attachments.
But Adobe, one way or the other, are now involved in a financially motivated customer cull. At a very large scale.
the public 2015 numbers are what they are.It will be very interesting to see how that works out for adobe in the midterm.
you can only kill so many bees?
