yes quite. Death to pointless vestigial event walls. Given what FCP is supposed to be for, you’d think mad simultaneous metadata eyeballing is overcooking it anyway.
7 was merrily destroying avid in high end soho with none of it. It appears you can get by.
I mostly think apple need to effect a normalisation of perceptions regarding the edit system, given some of the crazy advantages it offers.
one way or another it goes to the timeline. It doesn’t matter what they think it should be – you have to be able to fundamentally park an element in time, and the keyboard shortcuts have to operate out of the primary. that’s the bit of it I understand, and those are non-starters in their absence.
Its all very compelling, but the timeline just feels too crazy. In fact, the timeline actually is too crazy.

I don’t actually think that’s going to happen. Ripple training have said on air that they don’t believe it can happen in the context of metadata.

If you think this place is bad you should try the creative cloud debate forum. There are fifteen of us playing cribbage at the minute. It got terrifically exciting there recently when Oliver Peters and Walter Soyka got going on a CC cancellation thread. We tried to offer them buns and tea, but they were all like “we left something on the stove”. It was quite awkward.
The argument for a name change feels itunes or something. The name is probably just the name at this point.
Brand value Bieberkopf, you’ve got to consider the inherent brand value.Also, who is actually conducting meta X conversations here is a bit of a question. There was pretty wide ranging stuff on the library recently that feels unlikely to happen in the techniques forum – you could argue that this forum lately belongs as much to an internal dissection and discussion of X as anything else.
And that’s quite readable stuff for people who have no intention of putting the time in.
out of all the editing systems, X feels easily the one most likely to deliver a genuine surprise. Apple are capable of anything at this point. he said agnostically.
If, that is, they ever get their ass in gear.
Given they are now basically advertising 4-10,000 dollar hardware with X as the poster boy, you might think they could possibly try another year of seriously accelerated growth. if there is no larger goal, given it is the single notable feature resulting from a year of development, this feels like crazy inside baseball.
being realistic – who as an observer is supposed to care at this point?
who actually thinks the outstanding issues are going to be fixed to a commercial use timescale given the software pays apple dust and they aren’t even requesting upgrade money? Is everyone out of their minds? Apple are not a commercial software vendor. Why would any sane editing professional pitch their tent by the side of a capricious mount olympus?
granted aside that the trainers, hucksters, x workflow consultants and x t-shirt sellers will be the last ones to leave.

do you think apple are consciously looking to create shareable avid bin objects going forward, or is this just them brute forcing a library container object around events and projects? with resulting complications for keyword collections?

Hey Walter, yes i know about the stuff you referenced, I follow AE pretty closely – I just don’t care about them. Not the way I care about the warp stabilizer and the 3d camera tracker.

hard to say – if they’re going to do anything you’d think they’ll do it in the first two quarters of this year. Past that they’re probably over two million and they might just try to run all the way to the end of 2015 and see about getting 3.5 to 4 million subscribers they forecast – on current terms.
Photoshop and AE are effectively feature complete at CS6 and I own that. Although if something like the warp stabiliser or the 3D camera tracker turned up in AE that would complicate things.
It’s really Premiere – the consensus seems to be if FCP installs don’t turn into Avid installs, they’ll turn into premiere installs. That is presuming FCP7 ever dies.
If they really look like they’re hellbent on it I’d maybe start a single app subscription for premiere later this year.
that said I’d be extremely nervous getting into bed with CC on any level. they are reports everywhere of it interfering with CS6 installs – and the CC apps themselves can be extremely temperamental.
I wouldn’t feel at all good getting into it. Also the support is beyond a bad joke. Its pretty obvious they are running it as a non-existent service.
