[Bill Davis] “The fault is with the executive suite.”
I sort of thought that for a bit, but I think people are under-recognising how mad things are lately. Companies like Adobe are fixated now on existing assets and the profit they can derive from them. They don’t want it to happen through sales any more. They want rentier relationships now.
If you think Apple is different, I would direct you to their new rolling rent iphone sales programme, their rental music service, and their rental icloud storage system backing up the entire iOS system. There is a difficulty growing in the entire social relationship.

Dennis – call a spade a spade – your company is involved in rentier capitalism. You are leveraging decades old software to produce free frictionless money. You’re a stale landlord. You have digital land, and now you’re looking to rent the soil. Everyone knows that’s what you’re doing, there wasn’t that much of an uprising, but then, the middle class is largely broken in the west to begin with.
American / Western wages have been frozen for thirty years now, and credit expanded exponentially, to the point where the fiat currency system almost broke in 2008. If you think Adobe aren’t a nefarious actor here, trying to re-assert wealth through capital – money made from money – you’re kidding yourself.
Adobe are an aspect of the condition. You probably think you’re doing something valid in the market, but you’re not. You’re a description of the problem.

Sure. Me. The keyframing system being in the shape it is after a half decade is an utter joke.
It’s like a version of the William Gibson line about the future:
The future is already here – it’s just not evenly distributed
You’d say – “FCPX’s non-professional nature is there, it’s just not evenly distributed.”
It’s the original curate’s egg. Some of it is incredible, but please grant that the keyframing system is a mind boggling horror, unaltered after half a decade, which means that either its casual users don’t realise they’re going through hell, or Apple doesn’t care to listen to their screams from hell. Either way, it’s ridiculous.
And then there was the twelve month plus major feature pause that was triumphantly answered with a nineties 3D bevelled chrome type system. Followed by a massive horn fart and shocked silence.
FCPX is a looney little Apple project. Pray they don’t alter it any further. The next update will probably include major feature live photo iOS snippet publishing.
It’s la la land software. You’re all at the mad hatter’s party.https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics

time to confess David. I’ve long suspected you fell to the dark side, and I’m pretty sure your screenshot just confirmed it. post CS6 GUI my man.
Admit your sin. You are on CC Premiere.
Chris Petit wrote a confessional, I wrote a confessional, and I think you, David Lawrence, are maybe due a confessional. guitar cue.

[Scott Witthaus] “Why do we care what he edits on or thinks about other NLE’s? “
my God – the adherents on this forum sometimes.

in the blink of an eye is one of the more ludicrously interesting books you could ever read as an editor. Or at least I found it so – Murch found philosophy in editing. he’s a terrifyingly intelligent person. He has a brain roughly the size of a cow. And he never show boats it. I’d listen to Walter Murch reading out the phonebook.

second for the dog and duck. John Snow isn’t bad and the pint is cheap – love the French House, but if they like pints of beer they might be a wee bit put out..

you’d be curious at the 7 minute mark – where Murch effectively describes how Premiere Pro is being shaped and altered, on a month to month basis, by front rank directors and editors, right down to the buttons we see.
that’s almost crazy. Adobe take it under consideration and he says that, but that’s editing software alive like no one has ever seen. Even Murch himself says he’s never seen anything like it. Adobe are about gone blood simple after editing. If anyone thinks Premiere Pro isn’t on a massive march they are having a laugh. It’s close to a monster.

yeah – I’d say this anyway but: places like Disney, once they finally decided to pull the plug on FCP7 – went with premiere. Ditto Hogarth, CNN, BBC Worldwide, a bunch of small Soho shops, ITV increasingly as well. ITV did a big sitdown with their avid editors about Premiere coming down the tracks.
It seems when push came to shove for most FCP houses, they went for Premiere. Adobe have been really careful to bleed in Avid editor acceptable practises in terms of edit trim operations and source monitor edits and that. In the end – Premiere works far harder to pass the snob test than X. Also the Premiere team would basically cut off their toe to get a major contract. From what I heard in one instance, a major client query to Apple, in competition with Adobe and Avid, got directed to the FCPX page on the apple website. That’s not exactly ideal. They were an extremely large American studio with historical links to Apple. That one slightly blew my mind if I’m honest.https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics
