June 28, 2011 at 1:53 am in reply to: sure lets all just enjoy this… one more time.yeah, all the petition jumping around aside, it’s killing me a little, on some level its just weirdly truly depressing this.
I was a 1995 performa 5320, godawful gil amelio machine, but that didn’t matter because it was apple right?
I loved that machine – bootleg photoshop 4 with **batch actions** in my final year – it was like an automated frame by frame AE. I’ve never had more fun.Jesus this feels a tiny bit like an angry funeral doesn’t it? we all kind of know the mac pro towers are going to be next to go, and then christ knows all the apps are modal or something, its not that they aren’t figuring other interesting HUI things out but God, I’ve said it below, but in the dark years – weren’t we in the creative industries the ones who kept them going? Are we all just eaten bread? I mean christ apple – you got us in the habit of apple – and for your part Apple, for your part Steve, for your part Randy, well for quite a long time, we were the only food you could eat.

we are notably colourful in use of language..
and sure seeing as how I have a text box I will reflexively post this:

given as how the good man Pogue at the NYT is now tweeting about it we might yet develop a wee head of public steam.

June 28, 2011 at 12:38 am in reply to: With FCPX magnetic timeline, the non-linear is linear again!wait – we have V2? – I’m kidding I’m kidding – God knows I’m the self designated histrionics verbal hyperbole on this thing – but honestly – when you say which ‘can be edited like a V2’ do you not at all miss…. functioning numbered tracks that you can solo or disable? do you not miss V2 and its numerical brethren? why are we dealing with this? I know – this is the millionth time I’ve put up sentences like these – but am I wrong in thinking there was an essential intellectual rigour to the presentation of FCP7? for all the things that I might need it to do in an untold number of scenarios? and that that powerful professional flexibility is gone?

June 28, 2011 at 12:07 am in reply to: Apple to Educators: We don’t want your kindI hope they get their act together for you bud -if not, please, please do give them a bit of the public discourse.
As a total aside/funny story – it’s been pointed out previously, almost as a parable, that there actually isn’t a way to get V.A.T purchase receipts with the software in Europe – I mean that’s how shrink-wrapped consumer the software is – the people preparing this software – the itunes team apparently – weren’t in a position to even intellectually consider the VAT position – strictly speaking, the way they’re selling the software to businesses in Europe is legally in breach apparently, I’m not a hundred percent on this, but the professional airing the grievance seemed specific and truly irritated – I mean – if that’s actually true, the point Apple have now come to as as a professional services software company – is they can’t handle European business V.A.T receipts. Which is rather mad, if true.

June 27, 2011 at 10:59 pm in reply to: Apple to Educators: We don’t want your kindChris, thats… that really is.. pretty awful stuff –
people here are trying petitions and stuff, but I honestly think, no more than the rest of us – particularly with your own tale, its clear, highly relatable, and deals with education –
I would advise you to email the tech corespondents for ZDNT, CNET, maybe contact MG Siegler at Techcrunch, he’s tweeting at [ https://twitter.com/#!/parislemon ] email David Pogue at NYT or tweet him @Pogue – Pogue is actually a really decent receptive guy – he responded to ranting tweets from me – write emails to any and all of them over an hour or two, basically introduce yourself and paste in what you’ve told us above – apple as a company have one gold standard – the smiling stores, the smiling staff, and the happy products – bad public perception of their cultural role is a pretty serious deal for them – it should be. Sorry – you’ve probably thought of half this stuff anyway, but honest to god, I’m reading your thing and I’m the bit boggled, it goes with other stories that this release is some weird orphaned mess within the company – public pressure from media organisations can at least serve to clarify the situation for all of us with a vested interest. Sorry – that was super long. I really do commiserate with your situation.[edit] i just read you sign off credentials man – sorry – you probably read techcrunch as much as I do – the education thing had me spoonfeeding *weird* techblogs to you – but I still say – this is worth telling and it has much better resonance then half the rantings of the likes of me on this board. I say relate this to people – it’s a decent indication of the state of apple’s behaviour.
Apple have not performed well here, and that is an understatement.
best,

June 27, 2011 at 10:41 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro X: Demand for Features [Fb Page]that’s good stuff too – but also maybe we should all focus hard on the petition – it gets to the heart of the community who supported apple over all the dark years – the number is effectively our voice – this petition is being tracked by fortune and may be picked up by other media organisations. the number has more than doubled in the last three hours: I would entreat everyone to send this petition onto their FCP mates. Either apple is for the creative arts and the people who strive to produce it, or they’re a mobile devices company – let’s at least force them to answer.
