April 12, 2015 at 12:11 am in reply to: Is FCP Legend *finally* riding off into the sunset?Pr is getting ludicrously strong so fast though right? Has anyone actually seen the checklist for the last 18 months?
It feels a PS defence level blanket gambit given they screwed the web pooch with flash. Also Pr is working holy saints surprisingly well on existing facility hardware.
You’d feel Adobe are doing everything within the Nth of their power relative to Pr currently.
Some enjoyable thunder and lightning software spectacle from the cheap seats.https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics

[David Roth Weiss] “the number one golfer in the world”
if Speith would just do the decent thing and drop around five shots, I’d fancy rory on the back nine sunday. Nice to see tiger woods healthily on the leaderboard as well.

[David Roth Weiss] ” trying to erase all memories of their last foray to NAB”
But they couldn’t dare right? That FCPX reveal stands as a historical software bombsite crater for the ages. Invested partners and production companies the world over were left picking out bits of apple shrapnel for years. Who are they kidding?

project candy boggles me a little? the notion that you can live capture a scene colour look, apply inside premiere clip and have it preserved as a footage attribute through premiere into speedgrade is kind of insane. also the the 3D balls gui is giving me strong Kai Kruse flashbacks, which is nice.

[Scott Witthaus] “Morph cuts makes it simpler to deceive in some hands”
that’s a bit histrionic isn’t it? We’re not talking Leni Riefenstahl here – the minute I saw it, I thought of all the corporate IV’s you can get with a single camera and really limited client supplied b-roll that has to stretch over a two and a half minute cut IV. If it could rescue a half dozen pauses and um ahs there’s a world of editors that would bow their heads in sincere thanks. It seems a bang on feature for a broad church industry workhorse.

April 8, 2015 at 10:18 pm in reply to: OT: editing holds in focus that made no sense.habit. Same as everyone else here. I don’t come back that often either?
It’s entertaining to kick as software because it deserves it. Apple came up with a lunatic piece of software that some decided was the second coming because its insanity allowed for no other interpretation. FCPX had to be the word of god, otherwise it was largely ridiculous. It’s no clothes or ermine and silk.
weren’t media and events the second coming? Until Apple realised that was the height of idiocy a few years on. FCPX is pages and aperture and motion and shake – it’s all the things that apple finally never had to care about, and on this forum there are all the adherents left on the rocky lifeboat of apple pro-apps laughing heartily and pretending they’re not on a couple of planks of wood well out in the sea a mile from shore or cupertino.
I’ll kick the raft because I’m annoyed what became of the professionally inclined apple, that it was reduced to the raft.

April 1, 2015 at 9:38 pm in reply to: OT: So what will be the next cool conference?hey – i’d vote for LEAF as was but it’s gone the way of the do-do. Coming back from leaf we convinced our employers at the time to drop change for an intergraph with a pvr drive and a speed razor edit box out of that show. And we got to see the godzilla fx panel hungover. salad days.
edit: just checked – lord it’s not even online properly anymore – London Effects and Animation Festival. was sort of a Siggraph/NAB.

April 1, 2015 at 9:04 pm in reply to: OT: So what will be the next cool conference?beyond cliché to say this but – I’m usually curious what adobe roll out at max? They do work very hard to defend the rental deathstar. Adobe max sessions have been getting towards near must watch the last year or two. Not all of it, but some is utter gold.
this one from joshua smith last year has to be one of the more absorbing, madly personal presentations I’ve seen in a long time. plus his stuff kicks ass.
https://2014.max.adobe.com/sessions/max-online/?PID=2159997#/video/611
Also the mobile app notions they preview there have been getting increasingly interesting? I’m locked into lightroom at this stage and curating and picking on the ipad version is nice.
OT: I have a personal fantasy that they’ll release an iOS AE companion this year that allows for paint and live motion sketch record to be dubbed together with a stylus on an ipad. Working with CC synced brand assets, If you could feed certain paint and animation stuff done on the ipad through to desktop AE that would be rather sweet. Paint and motion sketch can be underused on the desktop.
Went off topic on this, but they’re generally very open at adobemax on the notion of what they’re about editorially. Shantanyu Narayen aside.

They had me at tickets for book of mormon. Always wanted to see that. And I’ve got a mate who owns a three story brownstone in brooklyn so it seems written in the stars really.
Oh Apple, I just don’t know. Say it ain’t so Joe, say it ain’t so…
