yep, I personally like this an awful lot.
vastly improved interface, vastly improved bin, clip operation, open CL support (!) their own iteration of Ubillos’s long lost first Cut meta data tagger, top flight colour correction suite built in, radically improved audio, adjustment layers (yay!)
and they’ve done an absolute ton of work on the trim tools:
realtime jkl trim tool editing with looping playback stuff and all. tons of new keyboard driven editing and the rest basically looks very magic menu, which is just dandy with me.
Fair play to them. Adobe have worked like absolute crazy here. Given the quantum leap this suite has taken, and the norms it adheres to – isn’t it really easy to see this as an editing industry mainstay within 12-18 months? It’s very easy to imagine this application getting incrementally stronger and stronger and stronger.
I stand by what I said – I really do think this will eat the FCP market segment alive over the guts of the next two years.

well you know what – at least they’re trying. the pro apps creative place having three year old case study stuff was pretty dispiriting. that looks a lot better, and hearing of two full bore for broadcast post facilities (or one soon to be) going with X in one day is almost a reality overload. It feels like getting indisputable proof of alien life or something.
FCPX badly needed this kind of affirmation.

I’ve queried the following before in heat and anger when I badly wanted to slap Apple, but let’s say, given that in my heart of hearts I dreamt that they were going to re-configure FCPX into something that could get past the gullet of the industry – nevertheless –
my question then and now is – are Apple, do Apple actually have the ability to put this kind of stuff out anymore? They fired a lot of critical people didn’t they? Weren’t there tweets from elder FCP Gods bidding farewell to core staff in 2010 that Apple claimed were non-essential?
ech.
Isn’t there a case to be made that whatever is left of the in-house skill set might not be fit for purpose?
That aside – given the precarious circumstances, I find it amazing that MB looks and Sapphire are after getting randomly busted. That’s a mess.

I love the gestalt of Apple – I am reared on them, from an amelio Performa on for god’s sake.
my issue is with the cupertino sewer dwelling, messily confused, dying, pro apps substructure horribly dragging its entrails out of the industry of editing over an agonising three year period…
that particular mess… I do have an issue with. 😉

great post. rings true. I’m agog at the general cloud backup of apps and tunes on my ipod and ipad, and I am getting increasing urges to get an apple TV. It feels like Apple is building the real thing this time, with all the content creators in place.
you’d nearly think they are getting ready to do a full ipod level stroke on media as a whole.Also mucho agree with the sentiment of our area being less existentially confused if they just visibly withdraw – at least then market reality can re-assert and we’ll all know what way is up after having gotten thrown out of the FCP pram.
