In your re-render, was there any audio at all? Maybe the audio track had a problem.
Did you ever try to re-render your animation with the music and try again. I have found that sometimes Squeeze has problems with a file, but if you re-render, it works.
Also, it pays to contact squeeze tech support. they may ask you to send them the original file so that they can analyze it and advise.

Don;t forget you can also add a simple Photoshop glow inside and outside the edges like you can in Photoshop. Select your layer and choose Layer > Layer Styles and then choose both inner and out glow. Teen set the colors and other properties. This won’t leave the trail, but it will give you a nice base for your glow.

Your best bet is to use black as your BG, even if giving it an alpha channel. And you should be rendering your animation straight – not premultiplied. See this video:

But even so, if you rendered premultiplied (and clearly from your description, you did) try using effect > Channel > Remove color matting and setting the color to the EXACT color you used as a BG (in your case, the red you’re using). That may remove much or all of the crud.

Not without making the layer move in the process. To do it your way, you’d have to move/animate the anchor point which cuases the layer to appear as if it’s moving. The anchor point is the center of rotation, as well as position and scale, and moving it makes the layer appear to change position. probably not what you want.
it might be easier to add a null (Layer > New > Null), place the null’s upper left corner (where it’s anchor point is located) right on the part from which you want your layer to rotate, and make the layer a child of that Null (use the parenting column). Then rotate the null, and it will rotate the child layer (your layer) from that pivot point. Then just continue to animate as you were.
